No TV licence here in Tenerife. I have the freebox in my television and we also get five English channels through a digibox. That one isnīt legal but most English folk have them.

Pretty sure we didn't pay for a licence when we lived in the US - perhaps SJ could advise on that. Quite possible though that each state is different - very few seem able to agree on anything.

Re: Freesat Box

There wasn't a tv licence in arizona because it was all cable or sattelite apart from PBS. You better get it sorted, because if I have to miss bargain hunt you're in for a really miserable week.

Re: Freesat Box

No licence fees here in the US , most folk recieve the signal either via cable or increasingly thru the phone line , think "over the air" signals recently changed to digital and you had to apply for a coupon to get a discount on a reciever box , think only about 10 or 12 local channels broadcast this way anything else you need 'cable' . Also since the land areas are so large and spread out folks in rural areas get poor reception .. (the stations aren't going to invest millions in building transmitters to serve rural areas ).
One of the biggest scams is that local councils allowed only one cable company to 'wire' each town/area for a fee + (backhanders to local officials and Councillors) thus locking you in to that company
Another sneaky scam the sleaziod politicians have come up with is having to pay a 're-cycling fee' on new electronics

In Arizona we had a pretty large motorised dish so that I could pick up a satellite mid-Atlantic and so watch the football - Guess who I watched Jay? There was some system to pick up a local type transmission using a small fixed dish and a bootleg receiver - you could buy the kit at Radio Shack

Think my son-in-law set up a similar thing to their house in northern Germany , has this 'azmuth meter' for want of a better name , which allows him to find/download programing from different satellites , think it came from Greater Germany (eastern europe )

Just a thought.
Retlaw.
Hope this post doesn't upset Mick too much - my apologies Mick.
The Freesat Box worked fine in France, no card and the Post Code is only to set the region that you receive - i.e. North West
