Freesat Box

Does anyone have a Freesat box that I can hire, or borrow, for a couple of weeks?
Need to be able to hook it up to my satellite dish while over in France for a couple of weeks.

Might not work Barrie, when it comes to set up you have to enter a postcode, using a BB5 in France might not get on line.
Just a thought.

Re: Freesat Box

Not quite sure,if it's just a satellite box & not tied to any major provider, your dish is bigger than 60cm & you can get the Astra 2-B-D satellite, you should be able to pick up UK channels.

Admittedly you won't get everything but you'll get the BBC's, ITV's & quite a few independents, that's how we get on here. I can't remember if it's 23 or 29 degrees East though (I think it's 29).

Failing that just buy a cheap one over in Europe making sure you can pick up the 2-B-D sat though with your receiver, in some cases you can pick up a set, that's LNB, receiver & dish from anywhere between 70 + € & individual boxes from as little as 20 €.

Re: Freesat Box

Thanks everyone, used my Sky box and dish OK over there to pick up all the Channels. Unfortunately the box got submerged in the flood and can't take the new Skybox from here or littlepom would seek revenge.
Will check on the Angloinfo Bretagne web site, somebody there may have the necessary info. Thanks for taking the trouble.

I do know that your viewing card is registered to your box in your home, I have two boxes but the cards aren't interchangeable

I don't think he's after a sky box, its a freesat box he wants, no cards and no need to put any post codes in or anything.

I have two FREESAT boxes, one is built into a recorder, your correct no cards, but during setup you have to enter a post code, you can't get past that box till you enter a post code, on one of them you also have to enter a parental code as well.

Re: Freesat Box

Just looked at AngloInfo Brittany - seems that all you need to do is plug in the LNB lead. Anyway, I have asked the specific question as to what do i need to do. Will let you know how i get on - one post on there says that they are only £30 in Argos????????

Just one thing Barrie, if you buy in Argos, test it before you go to France, could be one of their faulty ones. If it works leave that here and take littlepom's one with you, then if it packs up she can change it.

Re: Freesat Box

Thanks everyone - apparently the post code is only to set the regional channels. No card required and you don't have to put the actual PC in. Got some responses from France so will get one from Argos - anybody want a cheap Freesat box in a couple of weeks? Virtually new

No, they sell French TV Licences, in fact they are included in the Taxe Fonciere for every house - but over 60 years of age you don't pay Taxe Fonciere, or TV Licence.

UK Freeview & Freesat are just what they say - Sky, Virgin etc are what you pay for in addition but your licence fee is to allow you to receive any broadcast radio/TV signals. Same thing applies in France.
