Likewise. No good if its damp and smelly either. I'm not saying its all like that, but it was when I went there - first impressions count after all!

The items that were missing, well yes, that is a problem but if they were replaced, then thats something.
I do think credit should go to places like this that do help people, and I know many people that were extremely happy and grateful to HUFS.

as usual though you always get those who want the best for very little if any effort at all , i know someone who works at that place and all electrical and gas appliances get checked before they are passed on as it is illigal not to do so ,besides that i have been on a few occasions and whats in differs day to day but if you can afford to be picky then go to other second hand shops and pay10x the ammount or better still put your hand in your pockets and buy brand new stuff or even get credit and if you cant afford either then stop moaning because if it wasnt for places like HUFFS you wouldnt have anything at all because you couldnt afford the alternatives
personaly i am very happy with my bunkbeds and fridge freezer which cost me around £15-£20 in total including delivery
its a charity and they dont owe you a damn thing and there is nothing stopping you from inspecting goods before you agree totake them or even refusing items if they dont come as expected

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
I once asked Hufs to take a solid wood refectory table and 2 dining chairs.
They ummed and aahed on whether to take the table, pointing out that it was bigger than most people wanted nowadays. It was a 6 seater as most of them are. They took it - I was giving it away to replace it with a 2 seater for use by me and an occasional guest.
Do most people eat meals on trays in front of the telly?

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
On the other hand i would reccommend HUFS 100% from my experience-i moved in my current house with very little and they provided me with 2 carpets for £5,a washer for £20 and a cooker for £20 (plus if they broke they got fixed for nothing-not sure if thats still the case). All were second hand and you could tell but if you literally have NOTHING then its a great place to go.
You do ahve to be on benefits to buy things from there.

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
i happen to work at HUFS and can assure you this hasnt happened while i have been there we do not take in items that we dont see fit for other people everyone has standards and ours are not that low i happen to have seen a lot of nice stuff come in the last 13 weeks chocolate leather sofas without a mark on them and they go in less than an hour for £60'
if your stuff was junk theres nothing stopping you knocking it back and being refunded but if you come in and see something you want your name is put on that item till delivery date.
by the way to the op i have a large 7foot long white sofa with marks on it im currently trying to remove with some vanish if yourinterested please take it as its taking up room, im replaceing it with a 6foot 6 fish tank
please pm me if you want it

Just reminded me of a few years ago when I was buying a new dining room suite. I had a large oval teak dining table to dispose of and I offered it to the Red Cross, the YMCA and the Salvation Army. They all turned it down because "nobody wants a table that size" but the local hospice shop eventually took it, with very bad grace. I don't think many people do sit at the table any more and I think that's quite sad.

There's a whole new thread to be had here re sitting at the table for meals...we do in our house. I think it's important.
It seems that many don't though.
I'll start a new thread.

We almost always do. We try to eat as a family whenever possible as well.

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
freecycle has been an absolute boon to my son who needed stuff for his flat. I have curtains of various sizes and colours if any one interested and they free !!!!
as for accomodation , try eavesbrook housing association in accrington , they cover a lot of areas and are very helpful. their fone number in the telephone book .

i was told when it first started up that you had to be on benefits but i think they let it slide or have changed their policy due to even having a job these days puts you in no better position than somone on benefits
