Wanted Cheap reliable car
My sons car has just died a death and he needs a reasonable priced runaround. One with a MOT on it and a bit of tax.
Also he has a Fiesta that he needs taking away , has a new starter motor and four good tyres. Any offers ?

Re: Wanted Cheap reliable car
If he wants to make as much as possible strip it of all useable bits and ebay them. Things like radiators, wheels/tyres, starter, doors, wings(bolt off on them IIRC) , seats/interior if in good nick. Wiper motors, heater units etc. People running them on a budget will be happy to pick them up for peanuts
Its also a good way to learn about cars which will save him money in the long run as he will be able to do more of teh maintenance himself. You haven't said what has caused the death, if you let us know we can probabloy recommend even more components to salvage. Depending on whats bropken you may even be able to buy the bits of ebay to get his back up and running. a complete running engine shouldn't be more than 100 quid or so.

Re: Wanted Cheap reliable car
OK, he can still probably make a lot more cash by stripping it and ebaying bits than just scrapping it.
I have a couple of cars for sale but none suitable for a young lad as both are highish insurance groups and big engines.

Depending on what wrong with it it is sometimes better to repair and keep, better the devil you know and all that.
I can't understand the "it wont pass it's MOT so I will bin it and buy another old scrapper instead" mentality.
I scrapped my last car because the cost of repair was much more than the value of the car and hated the new one for months until I got used to it's old fashioned spring suspension rubbish

heh, yep, It is a little weird going either to or from a Citroen with floaty suspension. Persoanlly I love it, some find it makes them a little car sick though.

Re: Wanted Cheap reliable car
My brother has got a 55 plate Vauxhall Corsa which he's selling, (at least I think its a 55 plate and im pretty sure its a corsa). Not sure what kind of price you were looking at paying but if you can let me know what you had in mind I can make a few enquiries.
Chris.

Re: Wanted Cheap reliable car
Look at Auto Mart at the Rover 75 for round about £2000.
Beautiful car and engine to match.
In Spain I run a Ford Granada Scorpio. M registered which I have had for 4 years.
It is an estate with automatic transmission. Everything works, it looks good and being 2.9 will blow most of your Dinky Toys away.
Very hard to find these days but if you can find one.....buy it.

But since Rover went bust there are no dealers and some parts are very hard to find. I would avoid Rover for those reasons. Yes some of them are nice cars. No good having a nice car sat outside when you are unable to find a dealer only part to repair it.

Re: Wanted Cheap reliable car
I thought theere was a parts supply company set up specifically for Rovers as part of its closure.
BTW if Mods are going to edit all threads that go off on tangents Accyweb is going to become a boring and monotonous place. I'll IM and find out who removed our posts. Thread wanders happen all over the place and have been the start of some of the very best discussions on here. In real life conversations often go off on tangenst and thread away in different directions, why do mods seem to think it shouldn't happen here!
Come on guys we know you have a difficuklt job but at very least be sensible and apply common sense!
