Re: 10 weeks prison for driving at 172mph

You missed the bit where i said "yes its illegal" then?

and yes I've travelled at speeds in excess of teh limit and I'm still here to tell the tale. could it be that teh goverment work to the lowest common denominator and make speed limits based on the premise that there are crap drivers out there who are dangerous over 10 mph? Those of us who do pay attention, consider our driving, review and critique ourselves where necessary and generally 'have a clue' have to work with laws based on teh skills of others.

Police drivers are trained and skilled in driving fast, thats why they are allowed to break speed limits, IF IT WASN'T SAFE TO TRAVEL OVER THE LIMIT THEY WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED!!!

Would you have the speed limits set at the ‘highest common denominator” then?

It is the arrogance of drivers that declare themselves as great drivers that are the greatest cause for concern. Because of their misplaced self confidence in unproven skills they become a danger to other road users.

If you are not prepared to abide by the Road Traffic Acts, then get off the road. You are a menace!!!

For your information the police are not allowed to break the speed limits per sec. They are only allowed to exceed the set speed limit under certain circumstances and even then if they cause an accident they will be charged accordingly.

I thought the 10 week jail sentance was too much, dont think he should've been given a prison term at all, I thought our prisons were full to busting thats why the perverts are getting suspended sentances. I'd much rather see the perverts behind bars and the speeders banned and fined.

Agree with you on this Grego, after all prison is meant for offenders who would be a further danger to society; speeding drivers 'off the road' are probably decent people (surprising how some people change behind a wheel) so just taking them off the road for longer periods would resolve the problem I feel.

Yes, speeds of the nature this guy reached are a crime, I know .. but if they take away his toy .. don't feel he would take it out in any other way.

Re: 10 weeks prison for driving at 172mph

This was Jeremy Clarksons take on it (taken from The Sun):

Quote:
"How on earth did speed freak Tim Brady get a prison sentence for doing 172mph on the A420 last week? I've done 172mph so I know what it feels like. And to do this kind of speed on the A420 - a road I know well - you'd have to be a swivel eyed loony! So why didn't he tell the court he was insane and get himself sentenced to 2 weeks of comfy counselling instead? After all thats what murderers do!!
I think 10 weeks is pathetic. What posessed him get get up to that sort of speed?? If you want to go fast then go on a rollercoaster. I think Jeremy Clarkson is right. He must be a nutter!!
