16yo Girl hung in Iran....
http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/new...php?storyid=80
Quote:
On Sunday, August 15, a 16-year-old girl in the town of Neka, northern Iran, was executed. Ateqeh Sahaleh was hanged in public on Simetry Street off Rah Ahan Street at the city center.
The sentence was issued by the head of Neka’s Justice Department and subsequently upheld by the mullahs’ Supreme Court and carried out with the approval of Judiciary Chief Mahmoud Shahroudi.
In her summary trial, the teenage victim did not have any lawyer and efforts by her family to recruit a lawyer was to no avail. Ateqeh personally defended herself. She told the religious judge, Haji Rezaii, that he should punish the main perpetrators of moral corruption not the victims.
The judge personally pursued Ateqeh’s death sentence, beyond all normal procedures and finally gained the approval of the Supreme Court. After her execution Rezai said her punishment was not execution but he had her executed for her “sharp tongue”.

Pick that out! 16 years old, and sentenced to death for her sharp tongue.....???

That's horrendous. It doesn't bear thinking about that in the 21st century some countries can allow these things to happen. I suppose that for all our moaning and groaning about how dreadful this country has become, we are lucky to live here all things considered.
I'd have been dead years ago if I lived there.

Re: 16yo Girl hung in Iran....
Well that's Islamic Fundamentalism for you. Great isn't it?
I had an Iranian friend who was sent to study in this country by his father. The reason for doing so was that my friend was under sentence of death in Iran for the heinous crime of seeing a girl whose parents had arranged for her to marry someone else. Neither my friend nor his girlfriend knew that she was to be married to someone else when they got together so it wasn't even like it was adultery or similar.....the father of the guy who was to be married found out about this and pursued for the full punishment - which was death.
Civilised Shi'ia society? Dont make me laugh.

Re: 16yo Girl hung in Iran....
This is the same way through out the Middle East, one question that was asked as we were flying in to Abu Dhabi, "How long should I set my watch back?" the answer from the stewardess was " about 800yrs". But if you get chance to read this book its called Princess and its a true story of how Women are treated in an Islamic household. Don't know if the Libary would have it but if not they have it at Amazon.

Re: 16yo Girl hung in Iran....
I spent 2 years in the Middle East....Yemen, Bahrein, UAE, and Kuwait. I actually witnessed a man and woman binding up into distortion, the arm of their 6 month old baby girl...so that she could beg when she got older!!
Just another small story of barbaric practices used in that part of the world. Slaves are common practice, genital mutilation another common practice. All part of their stone age society.
I pray it never comes to Europe!

Considering that there have been a number of cases of murder as a result of girls refusing to take part in arranged marriages, and that girls are sent abroad from this country for circumcision, I fear that your prayers may be falling on deaf ears, Darby.

Re: 16yo Girl hung in Iran....
How could this have happened? The newspapers are constantly reporting that one Mullah or another has stated what a peace-loving and compassionate religion Islam is. Could they have got it wrong, do you think?

Re: 16yo Girl hung in Iran....
The religion is supposed to be peace loving. People interpret peace loving and put force into making people toe the line. This is contrary to peace. Those who do these things will face their day when they will have to answer.

Yes truely barbaric,we should also consider our own free country were many(westernised) Asian girls live in fear of arranged marriages or on refusal, persecution by their families.

You are so right - there are couples in this country who live in hiding because they married outside their religion, or even inside if the parents didn't sanction it. There have been several cases over the last couple of years of (usually) girls being killed by their loving families because they wouldn't marry a total stranger. If I go to Saudi, I have to follow their customs, I can't drive a car, I have to dress in a modest way in public (some of you might say that was a bonus), and all this is enforced by the religious police. Why do we not insist that people live according to our rules if they want to live here?
