The 24 hour drinking licensing is to be reviewed..

Labour's 24 hour drinking laws could be scrapped - Telegraph

now theresa may voted against it when it was brought in do you think she'll keep it ...

dont really bother me .. i dont go to pubs now that much .. but isnt it hard enough for pubs as it is ..

what do you think it should go back to opening at 12 -3 .. and then opening at 5pm till 11 pm

Its not so much to do with the licensing laws as the attitude of people to Alcohol in the UK. I don't know why, but the emphasis appears to be on drinking to extremes & highly alcoholic concoctions which lead to complete lack of self control & respect ? Not everyone, but amongst younger age groups it seems overtly prevalent.

If you look at the rest of Europe (specifically Holland & Germany as I spend a fair amount of time in these Countries)They have places where the Pubs/Bars are open from 05:00 in the morning & in general the pubs/Bars will stay open until 02:00 or even 03:00 without half the problems experienced in UK.

They are in no way free of drunken & abusive people, but the numbers & occasions are not as obvious. When something does happen the necessary services respond well & quickly without the carry on witnessed with British drunks. I believe that this is due to there still being respect for a uniform service irrespective of it being Police, Ambulance or Fire (They have their own paramedics) but this I feel is lacking in UK & therefore part of the problem.

Bloody hell.. this lot have only been in five minutes and they've already made sure we can't vote them out for 5 years..now they want to repeal drinking laws...Oliver Cromwell would be proud of them..next thing you know they will ban Christmas.

if they want to be democratic they should ask the "Landlords @ Tenents" but thats too obvious.

This may have a beneficial effect for pubs.......if they close for a period of time during the day then they will not have to employ staff to serve customers...cutting down the overheads.......remember the licensing laws will apply to other outlets too...so maybe this will cause a return to going out to the pub for a drink.

MAY being the key word, thats why i'm saying they should talk to the landlords/tenents etc in the first instance, enough pubs/clubs are really struggling as it is.

You are right Cashy, it might just be too late to save many pubs because the drinking habits of the population have changed over the years.

this could see the return of night clubs.part of the real reason for the decline of pubs is the overheads put on by the companies who took over from the breweries who want to bleed the landlord dry, punch etc.

Boozing is in our DNA. Read your Tacitus (with reference to Caesar). It's simply a question of control. Sometimes we do it - sometimes not. It tends to run in cycles. In a few years time, the social landscape will probably involve minimum pricing on alcohol sales, no town centre 18 hour pubs, breath tests on suspected drunks and compulsory tea dances for the under 25 unemployables.

Whatever is reported in the press, I can't see the chaos that has been caused by 24 hour licensing and have never been able to understand the furore over it.

Pubs can't afford to stay open 24 hours and there comes a cutoff when it simply isn't viable to be open anyway. Add to that the recession and a general lack of money for people to get wazzed up 24/7, plus the greed of the breweries who are really killing off the pub trade and there isn't much of a problem.

Unless someone can tell me otherwise, I understand that it hasn't made one iota of a difference in the hospitals of a weekend either so who exactly are they remaking these laws to please?
