I guess its another one of those cases highlighting poor police work again i'm afraid. This chap had also lied about many other crimes that he could not possibly have committed too. Surely alarm bells should have been ringing!. I dont know on what evidence this chap was actually convicted, but surely the Police should have taken his previous behaviour more into account, particularily after he retracted his earlier confession. However on the compensation angle, i dont think he should receive anything, but we know he will. Other lives could and probably have been put at risk by this mans confession, as well as the cost of further investigation into the case. People have to be made aware of the consequences of their actions on others.
