agree but for an hackney licence they had to check with the police to be sure no pervs or anyone unsuitable was carrying the public.Whats the differance? they went back 10 years.

I thought the law had been brought into line with the very strick laws for hackney cabs, to apply to all taxi firms?

Cool Re: 3 in 4 taxis not roadworthy in hyndburn

I did private hire for a couple of years for Five Star and then Arcade before a heart attack stopped me dead in my tracks. Er! Not literally ‘cos I’m still here. Or is this my hell?

But then (about 15 years ago) the local authority in Blackburn had an MOT station that did all private hire vehicles and they were very strict and MOT’s were due every six months. Your first aid kit had to be of a particular standard as well as a fire extinguisher.

I wonder who the drivers were of these 3 out of 4, or am I being mischievous in daring to ask?

Now I never said that!

However for daring to state the obvious have some of the Karma point things.

Re: 3 in 4 taxis not roadworthy in hyndburn

I was in a very iffy private hire vehicle last weekend and the driver wasn't Asian!

There should be stringent checks on all private hire cars and taxis because I've been in some where the seats don't even feel like they are fixed to the floor! And while they're at it what about the drivers? I expect them to have a bit of a clue where they're going. Don't they have street maps of Accy?

What were you doing getting into an ‘iffy’ taxi in the first place?

He could have meant that his gearbox was kaput!

IffY?

I'm trying my best not to have to much input into this thread as I have very strong, informative views on taxi's and licensing

Re: 3 in 4 taxis not roadworthy in hyndburn

I'd phoned for a taxi (sorry, I mean private hire vehicle) and got in the private hire vehicle and we were en route when I felt that the vehicle was perhaps not in as good a nick as I would expect a taxi to be.

You made a very valid point in the above thread about who the culprits are, don't spoil it
