A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
Had a good one at work the other day.
A elderley couple who have had insurance with LLoyds TBS for many, many years that long when they started it was under its old name.
Anyway there house insurance was due for renewal, they received there renewal notice via the post and like many people do they just presumed it was the best deal and went to the branch to pay it.
When they got to the branch there where advised that they couldnt renew it by cash payment as they didnt have a bank account with them.
How messed up is that a bank that cannot accept cash.
Wonder what the FSA would say about that? Treating the Customer Fairly I think not.
Luckly for them they came to see me, not only can we accept cash but I saved that a few quid also and gave them better extra cover.
Made me think though why could they not accept cash at the bank?

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
A friend of mine had a problem the other day with the same bank, tried to pay a bill for her son over the phone with her card and they refused to accept the payment because it wasn't her sons card........I had to go into the branch and pay it in for her (in cash).. Whats the problem with these people they were getting paid.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
Another popular one is credit, lots of offers for buy now pay in 6 or twelve months, when you try to pay with a card over the phone before the free period ends, they tell you they dont accept credit dards, usually it is to late to arrange money transfers or what have you, so then you owe them interest, if it is a twelve months free deal, they can then claim interest on the full sum, from the first day you are over the limit.

I have had this with Curries / HFC.
There is One way and thats to get your Credit Card Supplier to issue you with credit card cheque's and pay this way, they cannot refuse.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
That was my point MrD, but if you wait till the last minute, you dont have time to arrange it, and the interest is then owed.

IIRC they have to allow sufficiant time to remind you that the interest free period will end.
As I was advised by Curries though, sometimes the letters may get lost in the post. so its upto me to remember when it comes due.
But I recently purchased a TV from Curries on 12 month drip/interst free and again I was not informed that I could not pay it at the end of the period with my credit card (Lucky I already know) but this could catch people out.
IMO The seller should advise the situation re credit cards and there none acceptance.

They've got you tied up every which way, and if the first scam doen't work they will come up with another (it's all in the small print) but who reads that, we are too trusting, we believe everything we are told.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
I dont Lynx1, dont use credit anyway, but because of my work, have to be well aware of all the pitfalls of British gas, eon, reactfast, homeserve etc, none are what they seem.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
I've had an account with Lloyds TSB since when it was only the TSB and I have to say I've never had an ounce of trouble with them at all

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
Banking is nowhere near as simple these days as it used to be when I worked there.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
TSB is a pain in the neck. When i was working i was paid into the bank every month which they quite happily took. When i finished and went onto benefits they were paid weekly at the post office. So i didnt use my bank account that much ... just if i needed to pay something by cheque which wasnt often but it was still there. I kept some money in it just to keep it open around £4. Then i passed my driving test and got a car. Next up i had a bang and we dealt with it ourselves instead of getting the insurance involved. I had to send them a cheque for £50... next up stuck the cheque in the post at the same time as getting my benefit and then went down accy to put it into my bank account. Goes into TSB and they said you dont have an account with us. Yes i do i have a speedbank card ... no you dont its been closed because i hadnt used it for a year!!! Why didnt you tell me that you had closed the account .. we didnt know if you had moved and so we didnt want to tell anyone you had an account with us. So you didnt tell me that you had closed that account and now when i want to use it you say i cant. Well i've just sent a cheque to be drawn on that account it has already gone in the post so i need to put that money into that account. You will have to try and get that cheque back because otherwise you can be charged with fraud. I said can it not be unfrozen and said no it cant be. Well can i open another account ... want proof of earnings well im on benefits sorry cant open another one then.
I trailed round accy trying to find another bank that would let me open an account with them. Finally found one. Got the cheque back - it was handy knowing someone worked at the post office ... and got someone else to write me a cheque on their account and i gave them the cash.
Now i wont have nothing to do with TSB.

Re: A Bank that doesnt accept Cash
Its now a lot easier as there is now a thing called a "Basic Bank Account" that all banks have to provide which has no overdraft etc with it. All Banks were forced to offer these although you still need certain forms of id due to other gov legislation.
