I saw it on TV this week.
All the ships have council employees inside, pedalling away furiously.
Perhaps Hyndburn could bring the tourists in.
By doing something similar...with benches.

Re: A cause for....apathetic disinterest?
I think there was a poll on here along the lines of the greatest royal King/Queen ..to my mind the present Queen is up there ...60yrs of keeping her gob shut, not many days off, turning up rain or shine, never called in sick, had to meet 12 different PM's most of them idiots... of course she has lived a privilaged life but she's been much better than Victoria who buggerd off to the Isle of White sulking for 25 years.

Why the soggy red, white, and blue jubilee butty, are the BBC showing some end of the pier act, pretending to be Peter Snow...in a blond wig?

Re: A cause for....apathetic disinterest?
I'm going to have to turn it off.
It was better than the Millenium's River of Fire spectacular.
Marginally.

It wasn't though.
She formally ascended to the role of Queen on the 8th Febuary, 1952.
Yesterday, June 2nd, was the fifty ninth anniversary of her coronation.
All rather muddled, if you ask me.
Having the Bank Holidays back in Febuary, sixty years after actually becoming Queen, we might have stood more chance of better weather.

Royal sod.
Old Acidic-bab's post was made back in Febuary.
Apologies.
Still muddled though.
Having the Diamond Jubilee on the 59th anniversary of the coronation.
Rather than in Febuary.

The Royal barge looks a bit Chinesey to me.
I'm sure there's a model of it in the Jade Garden, in Abbey Street.

When they planned the Coronation for 2 June 1953 they probably never imagined she would get this far.

She looks in fine health to me.
If she's anything like her mother, I'm sure she'll still be here in ten years.
Which I think will be a first.
A Platinum Jubilee.
Take that, Mrs. Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Brown.

Though that's nothing to do with the fact that she became Queen sixty years ago this Febuary, not June.

Re: A cause for....apathetic disinterest?
I watched some of it - I helped pay for it so why not - with sound muted to avoid the sycophantic commentary.
It was rather a damp squib as spectacles go.
I did see some amusing moments -
Phil the greek wiping his nose on his kid glove (before the rain), and the feeble efforts of some artists on a bridge.

I would rather have a sycophantic commentary than some of the inane comments of the presenters.
The pageant was financed by private money apart from the policing.
