a lil story of my saturday night...

i was workin at a bar in west manc on saturday - i had to touch up a few sound systems etc. so it was a late call out and i went over and i'm behind the bar in this real nice area. the car park's full of brand new motors and the clientelle was blantantly from a higher wage band. i ended up stayin there till the end of last orders etc and to the point of stayin behind for a drink when ppl had left...

so i'm stood near the bar and the exit and a guy comes up half drunk and starts talkin to me. "you know your alright. your asian and i like you. those other two ****ing cooneys (sp?) i cant stand but your alright."

then i realised he was talkin about the two black doormen and i was just really shocked of the views. i got home and it dawned on me as to why i was feeling so intimidated/watched. even now a few days later i'm still rather shocked that such views and attitudes cud exist esp in a area of such educated people. normally i've always associated with the lack of education/income to racist behaviour but this was a real shock to the system. needless to say i'm gonna req from my company not to be sent down there again!!

Re: a lil story of my saturday night...

It shows that racism is unfortunately endemic in all social strata in this day and age. You have every right to feel as you did after the incident as it could have been yourself it was aimed at instead of the doormen. We live in a multiracial country which some people only see the one colour language religion and culture. As for not wanting sent back there I agree whole heartedly. A person should be able to go to work or do a job without any kind of intimidation.

1. what is the car park doing full of cars if its a pub (not pub/reastraunt) surely if you go to the pub you dont take the car ??

2. if you felt intimidated/ watched ....why did you intend to stay for a late drink ??

3. why associate racism with the so called "lower class", just because you earn a good wage drink champagne and wear suits doesnt make you a fu**in saint..(not meaning YOU personally)....some of the most arrogant of people are the ones that wear suits and because they have money they think they are above you...well il tell you sumatt ...they flamin well aint...i might not own a jag or a porsche or earn 100k a year/wk or whateva but i do have manners and to me thats what this day and age lacks....wheater it be high class or lower class....

open your eyes to the real world

man can maketh the money but money cant maketh the man

Re: a lil story of my saturday night...

1) well thats not my choice - i'm sure the people going htere had a nominated driver too.

2) i had to stay behind as i had to do some tests on the sound system which i cud only do once the place had emptied - u cant exactly go switching off the music on a sat nite!!

3) well from teh fact that most of the racist probs i persoanlly faced have been from such people.

Re: a lil story of my saturday night...

You find racism in all walks of life. Rich or poor, there will always be bigots and people who think they are better than others regardless of creed or colour. My answer is always the same... We all pooh the same way so how can anyone be better than me or you! I may not have money but I have manners which are free and this makes me better than those ignorant arrogant so & so's.
