Accrington Beach!
I knew this would get your attention!
But do you think it would be a good idea to create an artificial beach in the Accrington area and charge people to use it?
If so where would it be?

Re: Accrington Beach!
It would be a health hazard because chavs would pee on the sand.

No really in that old Quarry on the side of the coppice, if it hasn't gone already, or perhaps by the canal!

Re: Accrington Beach!
Once saw an artificial beach on the Rive Gauche of the Seine in Paris -looked very effective.
In Accy -likely to turn to quicksand with all the rain but Abbey Street maybe? Nice bit of recreational space for Maundy Grange - added attraction: free ice-creams for all!

If you put it by the canal in Clayton Davemac can take seaside pictures as well as ducks and wicky things. No topless sunbathing though!

Re: Accrington Beach!
Just knock the whole town centre down and site it there. It's dying on its feet anyway, thanks to successive councils. If it was a beach, you'd probably get more people there than now.

Re: Accrington Beach!
years ago there was a rumour that there was going to be a leisure resort /theme park built up huncoat which resulted in jokes about the place been known as Huncoat Sands.
If it an artificial beach your after just dump the kids at jewsons or greengates with tehir bucket and spade and leave them in the sand bunker while you go shopping

Re: Accrington Beach!
Brisbane has(or had, until the floods - not sure if it has been rebuilt yet) a city centre, man made beach.....it is well used but then they do have the climate for it don't they.
A beach in Accrington? I don't think it would work. We don't have the weather for it

Re: Accrington Beach!
Sand is gritty stuff which isn't pleasant to be in contact with.
It's only association with pleasure derives from its being next to the sea.
Since we are unlikely to have waves lapping Accrington anytime soon, a better alternative is grass, flowers and benches.
We used to have just that - where the semi derelict Arndale now is.

Why not have a paddling pool and a boating lake as well?

I couldn't quite remember about Oakhill Park as Milnshaw was my local one. But if you think so too...
