Some people have more money than sence or need but there was a few complaints about it i seem to remember, but they ran it decades ago without need to charge & now see it as a money maker without justification as of yet. Mind u the place was that loud u could hear & see it from the coppice anyway without the crowds hehe

Ironically they would make far more than £4 from me if they had free entry, but it was point of principal at the time and still is.

When did the carnival start? ... I don't remember it back in the horse-drawn days of my youth. Come to think of it the coal arrived by horse and cart, as did the milk from Ringstonhalgh farm, and the rag and bone man.

My dad has an 'old' pic of me as a pre schooler at the sandy lane carnival in either 1979/80
