Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

How do you know he was mentally unbalanced?

Just because we wouldn't do something like that when we are rational doesn't mean that everyone has been reared with those same values and guidelines.

I read a book a couple of years ago on holiday - can't remember the title, wish I could - written by an American woman whose father had been the target of a terrorist shooting in Jerusalem. She went under cover to seek out the guy who had shot him (he survived btw) and from her first inability to understand the mentality of indiscriminate shootings she began to relate to the people who carried out the shootings and who would rather kill their own sister than have her associate with the wrong kind of person. When one of their family was killed they accepted 'blood money' from the family of the killer and criminal charges were dropped. It made chilling reading. These people weren't mentally ill. It was their way of life, their morals, their standards.

Yeh thats the problem is that 'mental illness' becomes too much of an umbrella for explanations, & can be too easy in cases to excuse the person & removes their responsiblity, hence diminished responsiblity comes into it a lot legally. But how many of us have had injustices done to us [altho we may say otu loud or think it out of frustration] how many do actually go about their thought regardless???

Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

Having seen the 2 stories on line I dont think antone will ever know. If as suggested there was tension over how to bring the kids up it could have been something that was under normal circumstances that set it off. The only person who really knew is also dead. Its not fair on the rest of the family to throw conjecture/speculation in the air as they will still be raw. Better they get on with their lives and remember the good that was once in the dead family.

As you say Spuggie, the only person who knows cannot tell us - time now to let the victims rest in peace.

Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

The remaining family has a right to get on with their lives and those innocent victims should be allowed to rest in peace. Sadley though there will always be a few who want to keep it going.

Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

Without trying to sound heartless but wht was the point of the inquest? We knew what happened already. So how much money did it waste?

Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

Would have thought that's obvious;it was a case of unlawful killing;there has to be an inquest;inquests have to be held for cases like this just as in accidental deaths and suicides.

Re: Accrington House Fire Inquest

I worked with Barry several years ago & thought he was a good bloke back then.He has my upmost respect for the way he has handled this personal tragedy. The losses of his sister & her children must have been hard enough but with all the media attention it brought i thought he showed great dignity.

Have to agree there Maxwell, only know Barry and his mum by sight because I used to live on the same street but he has been very strong and I admire the way he gave his tribute. Hope they can now move on ,it must be very difficult.
