Black Abbey! Is that not the Abbey on Bank St?
Does anyone know if there was a pub opposite the Swan, before the Red Lion, is it one on the list?

Re: Accrington pubs
No, the Red Lion was rhe empty building on the corner, used to be PV Tubes. I'm talking where the garage is now. Used to be a church there and someone told me a pub, but he may be wrong.

Yes there was a friend of mine was brought up in it, it was either The Oak Tree or The Lord Nelson will give you name later. It was opposite the gaveyard that was removed to make a car park for the Swan.

The landlord fell down the stairs at the Welcome, see cashman's post, the Feildings had the Black Horse on Abbey St for a number of years in the late fifties/sixties, ask me another .

I do seem to recall an accident in the Black Horse in the sixties. The other pub near the Red Lion was only a few yards down from it, I'll get the name off my mate he used to live in it. There was another pub further down near the Canine Club, it was called The Brigade, anyone remember that?
