Must admit that's got me intrigued, too! I've just spent a quick ten minutes asking my mate, Google, but no answers are forthcoming. I'll take a wild guess at...it's one of only six stations that lead directly onto a viaduct. Probably totally wrong, but, come on, Tealeaf, spill the beans!

Yep...you're totally wrong. The correct answer is that Accy railway station was one of only 6 'triangular' stations in the country, giving the choice of travelling in 3 directions, as against the usual 2.

Didn't it cease to be triangular in the 1960s when the Manchester line was closed?

How's this for being a fogie: I remember when a platform ticket was 2d, but a single to Ossy was only 1 1/2d. So if you wanted to do a little trainspotting you could save money.

Being a youngish "old fogey" over 21 i went a hunting for pics maps etc and ended up on history pages for the area. Seems odd that what started out as looking for one thing became something else.
