Re: Accrington Style

have no photos of me from leaving junior school till getting wed (early 20s) if fact no-one has.- refused to have them taken my logic being so the police wouldn't have a recent photo. so i have no fashion shame cos nobody can prove it. so the only thing i have a bit of shame about is- my logic.

Of all the New Romantic type groups, Ultravox were the most stylish, basing their influences on 30s/40s styles. If I said I dressed like Tony Hadley I`d accept your comments with my head hung in shame

The Rindy style jury is still out.

Did you have the sideburns and pencil moustache?

No, he didn't have the moustache from what I remember although pretty sure he did have the hair.

I'd have to argue with the use of the word 'stylish' when talking about Ultravox - bland and boring might be more appropriate, just like their music!!!!

I agree, bland. A bit more avant garde when local boy John Foxx was their lead singer.

I think it's quite telling their biggest hit Vienna was kept off the number one position by Joe Dolce with 'Shuddup Your Face.'

Do they really think they look good or stylish or even anything less than sub-human.
I know that the culture of MTV has made role models of rappers from the ghetto, but they have had success and drive Bentleys and Aston Martins while their Lancastrian counterparts ride around on childrens BMX bikes.
Thank goodness as a youth I may have had role models, heroes even, but I did`nt dress like them..... excepting early Midge Ure!
Just imagine the pictures in the about 100 year time, historical Accrington will be hillarious. On a serious note though. I work in the town centre (Doorman) at the weekends, & get really fed up with all the "chavs". They can't seem to get it into thier thick skulls, that tracksuits aren't smart, that's why they're not allowed in the pubs. The new nightclub/late pub "Industry" has just stopped allowing stripped jumpers into thier venue. Also all jewelery must be discreet (no massive chains or rings). Fair play to them, at least they're trying to make a difference. 10 years ago i wouldn't have dreamt of going out on a fri/sat night in anything but trousers and a shirt.

Let's hope Sean, P Diddy, Puff Daddy, Coombes, or whatever he's calling himself now, doesn't try to go out in Accy, he'd have no chance.

Re: Accrington Style

lol, my point is though, that, "industry" might not be the best club in the world, but, it has a nicer atmophere than some of the other venue's in town, due to the lack of "chavs".

Re: Accrington Style

Don't know if anyone else has seen some of the students recently, there seems to be a few walking round in jeans, shirts, ties (big knot, short tie) & scruffy trainers. They look like thier entire wardrobe come either out of the attic, or from thier grandad.

It's all a signal of the Great Accrington Mirror Famine;that twinned with the ongoing soap famine makes it such a fantastic place to live and work!
