Age-rated, over-rated???

Following very loosly from Pixie's thread about age-rated games - does anyone remember the thrill of watching a 15 or 18 movie when you were underage? (Hopefully not as young as 9 though!)

It really did make you more interested in watching a film if you thought you weren't really supposed to - when I was 14 I would probably never choose to watch anything less than a 15 rated film (even if it was c**p).

But now that I'm old enough to watch what I like I tend to choose films for the storyline rather than looking at the rating. In fact, nowadays I couldn't watch a horror film on my own (unless the TV was muted!) and I'd much prefer to watch a happy-go-lucky PG aimed at 12 year olds!

Memories...... I sneaked in to see "Barbarella" with Jane Fonda while being well underage.....and fell in love with her!

I recently downloaded the film on a Peer to Peer site and thought "What a load of c***! Funny how perceptions have changed with the onset of old age! It was the same with the film "Family Way" that showed Hayley Mills standing up naked in a tin bath, showing her b*m, Lovely, I am sure, but a recent viewing destroyed those thoughts that had been lurking in my head for all my teenage years!

If todays films are considered "strong" and assuming that in 30 years time, they are embarrassingly weak, what will they be exploiting??...............

Does this mean I will never more hear references to Hayley Mill's bum?

I remember requesting DJs to play "J t'aime" because it was banned by the BBC!

Talking Re: Age-rated, over-rated???

As a 16 year old, I found the thought of making love by putting fingers together rather erotic (sorry for those that have not seen the film) but now prefer the old fashioned way lol)

J'Taime, WOW, don't do this to me Willow..........

I wonder how many 30 odd year olds are in existence because of Jane Birkin??

Re: Age-rated, over-rated???

I'm a bit too young to remember Barbarella, but the film I remember sneaking into see was Terminator 2 (because we all had a crush on Edward Furlong!). We were 12, the film was a 15, and we all spent ages slapping our face with make up till we were orange and trying to remember that we were born in '76 rather than '79. Needless to say everyone got in except me and one other as we stumbled over our birthdays when asked.

Re: Age-rated, over-rated???

I remember going to see Grease when I was underage and I loved it, I still have a copy of the video now. I also went to see An American Werewolf in London which was rated 18, I was 15 at the time, from what I can recall I enjoyed the film, but after watching it on tv a few years ago found it quite tame. It was always rather a challenge getting into the pictures to see a film that I was too young to see, but a challenge I was more than happy to rise to.

You sir, are a man of a certain mould.... These films had the same affect on myself. I must say that Haylay Mills drove me mad with lust for many years as did lulu at the time of the lux ads in the 60s/70s.....

Re: Age-rated, over-rated???

Can I share my experience which was the total opposite?

I was in Germany for a fortnight over Christmas and New Year the year I turned 16 on Jan 2nd. As a birthday celebration my friend and I planned to go to a local disco club to see my favourite German band at the time ('The Lords' if anyone has heard of them)

I was decidedly miffed when the bouncers wouldn't let me in because they didn't believe I was sixteen (minimum age for entry) but they were prepared to let my friend in and her 16th birthday wasn't until April!!!

That's one of the penalties of looking young.

When I was 32 I went into a pub in Barnstaple and the landlady asked me if I was 18!!!! I nearly kissed her!! Now there is no doubt whatsoever!!!!

Let's face it lads, the only reason we thought Barbarella was good was because we saw Jane's boobs in the opening 5 minutes. After that, it was all downhill. At the time though, that was a bloody good 5 minutes.
