Re: Ageism!!!
I was turned down for ajob in October, it was between me and a graduate fresh from uni. I lost out because in the words of the employer ' he showed more enthusiasm'. Well what a suprise, I bet he has a brown tongue as well
I realised ageism was going to be the biggest barrier I was going to face so decided to work for the grumpiest meanest boss in the world, but at least I can look him in the face and call him all the swear words under the sun every morning .

Just thought id point this out as so far this topic has been all anti young people :-).

Re: Ageism!!!
Ageism in the workplace is against the law.
Employers cannot interview two people with the same skill set and choose the younger one purely because they are younger.
However, as long as they don't tell you that you haven't got the job due to your age you wouldn't have any proof that your age went against you.
They would find some other excuse if you questioned why you hadn't got the job i.e the other person was more experienced or something like that.
You can even find yourself facing disciplinary action these days if you make ageist jokes in the workplace......calling a colleague Grandad or giving someone a rainmate and denture tablets as a 'joke' birthday present.

Re: Ageism!!!
On the programme a dad who was highly qualified as an accountant and his daughter who had not even qualified sent their CV's off to some recruitment agencies. In the dads case there was no acknowledgement yet the recruitment agencies were sending staff out to meet the daughter. Crazy if you ask me.

Could this be put down to aptitude as opposed to attitude?

Never heard of that one ... of course, as Einstein observed, time is money. I see in this a thread for the boys: like "1000 Reasons Why Hookers Are Better Than Girlfriends" .... (and probably less costly in the long run)
