Ham shank or bacon ribs is best in pea soup I think.

Good in broth too Sue.
When I make pea and ham soup I usually get some ham corner....and if we are really on our uppers, I have been known to just use the ham bone.

The things that used to be really cheap....bacon ribs, ham shanks, belly pork, pork ribs.....have somehow become trendy......and have rocketed in price.
I remember buying Lamb shanks at 99pence each.......now they are something like £3 each.

This trend for lamb shanks (and the price) leaves me cold... give me a nice roast any day, sorry I know lamb's not your thing but it's my favourite roast. Love belly pork as well.

Round here the farmers' markets do something called a lamb henry, don't know where that came from. It's a normal half shoulder of lamb cut in half. In my opinion too small for a decent roast and a waste of good meat if you casserole it. At my Richard's works canteen and some pubs they serve a whole one for one portion which I think is obscene.

Himself and Ma used to love a lamb shank......slow roasted and glazed with canberry.
I used to do them one each...though Ma used to make hers do for two sittings......with new potatoes and minted peas.
If I talk about them to Ma she fair smacks her chops.

Yeah but you can't have strong drink without wanting some grub to come home to...otherwise all the kebab shops would go bust. natural progression, that's what it is.

He added that he would not be surprised to see the whisky appearing for sale on eBay with customers taking advantage of the discount price of £49.99.
Sells on eBay are not allowed to sell alcohol for 'consumption' but can get around this clause by selling it as a collectable.
The limited edition, Speyside Single Malt Whisky comes from an unnamed Scottish distillery.
Aldi will also be selling 3,000 bottles of a 24-year-old single malt whisky in its stores for £29.99 from November 24.

Just checked, 26 bottles on ebay, highest buy it now £260 plus £15pp.
I think the collectable clause is a load of rubbish and I would wee laughing if ebay pulled all the items for sale. I hate it when people buy these offers then just sell them on ebay. People who actually wanted this to drink loose out to these people who only want to take advantage.

I like plain food...roast beef, yorkshire pud(home made) fresh steamed veggies.
I like a good steak...with a rim of yellow fat........3-4 minutes each side.
I love good home made puddings too, but don't make them these days...they head right for my waist(or what used to pass for my waist) I like a home made meat and potato pie, with pickled beetroot or red cabbage.
I like a Roast of pork with fresh cooked veggies....apple sauce and home made stuffing.
I can be persuaded to eat sausage and mash...but only now and then.
I like a pork chop grilled........with apple sauce on top, then topped with a sprinkling of mature cheddar cheese....mashed spuds, cabbage and carrots......I like a bowl of carrots mashed with butter and pepper.......I can eat then as a meal....i can eat sprouts like this too with just a sprinling of lardons on top.
I make a very tasty vegetable pie too....no crust, but topped with crunchy crisp slices of potato.
I make Risotto(various types) for the children too(I figure it is better than burger and chips)they eat it up and tell me it is better than what their ma makes....OK. I know this falls into the category of nasty foreign muck, but I think of it as a savoury rice pudding...you see, my goal posts are movable.
What, no deer, moose, seal flipper, whale blubber, or beaver tails (dessert) And no poutine

No Eric....can't get 'em and if we could........I wouldn't eat 'em.
The thought of whale blubber makes me heave....seal flipper sounds a bit fishy too.

Our collection is much more basic, couldn't afford anything too ancient and don't really appreciate the finer points - need more education! Not keen on those that have been kept in sherry casks etc... If you have a Bunnahabhain you are obviously an Islay man. My favourite is Talisker, closely followed by the Islays, Ardbeg, Caol Isla, etc. My partner likes Lagavulin but prefers the everyday one - someone bought him the distillers edition and he didn't like it as much.

Then if we just want a nice dram without depleting our stocks we have some Black Bottle which is a nice blend of Islay malts.
