Wrong.

I was brought up to have good manners, but also to think for myself, and not be a sheep.

I certainly wasn't going to stand up for the wife of a man whose grandfather happened once to have been King.

I'd quite happily stand for an elected head of State, and if the people decided by voting, that that person happened to be the Queen, so be it.

I was brought up to respect all people.

Those, who by accident of their birth, should get no more, or less, respect than anyone else, in my opinion.

Re: Allegiance to the Queen

I take a view that everyone deserves to be respected until such time that they relinquish that respect by their actions or inactions. I see all men as equal, but by the very nature of our existence recognise that some or more equal than others. I would show that respect to the Queen even as an unelected head of state because to me until she or her decedents or otherwise replaced she represents this country and its people and that act of showing respect is my respect being demonstrated to each of you.

Put it this way, if I was to go to war and made that sacrifice, I would not have died for the Queen, but for my country and her people. Despite the fact that it is shambolic the head of state is symbolic of the people, just my opinion.

Gimmicky suggestions come thick and fast from Brown's cronies.
Makes me wonder whether this smokescreen of controversy is just to give the press something to print, so that the REAL 'shinanickins' aren't reported

Government by spin replaced with government by smokescreen

Swear allegiance to the Queen ?

Another gimmick in my opinion, a damned silly one at that.

Lord Goldsmith has lost the plot if he thinks this will give teenagers a “sense of belonging”

Don't forget, this is the wise and learned person who told us that burglars have rights too, when the debate over whether householders had a right to protect thmeselves was at its height.
