eww they are huge, have you found a web yet ? it must be huge, or do they not make webs when they are that big, should be quick enough to catch anything in passing hehe, i dont mind small spiders but not big ones, think its because my little brother had a tarantula as a kid i swear this spider was as big as my hand that was enough to spook me

Don't know what it is but I can't stand the little blitters, my Dad was the same, and my eldest Daughter takes after me. Last year I had a little poblem with ants, got one of those electrical gadgets, got rid of the ants and haven't seen a spider either, money well spent

Re: and now time for something a little different...(warning - shoking image!)

We uncovered the mother of all "house" spiders a few years ago taking down an old shed - it must have been older than the shed, it was a freak of nature. My Grandad, bless him, just picked it up without any fear whatsoever and tossed it into the nearby flower bed. Meanwhile, every other member of the house was halfway down the road...

These ones dont seem to have made a web - there is a kinda entrance web (which is what they're sat on) but nothing else. The one on the left is the only one that 'lives' in there - the other one must have popped round for a brew!

just get one of those humane catchers so that you can release them when you catch them

That had occured to me - spiders not being the most social of animals (especially with each other!) I thought I might try to catch it and then give it a good vacuuming (then im going to fill that gap in!)

Like Jaysay I have got a plug in repeller.
It works against rodents and crawling insects.
Does no harm to cats and dogs but will give your hamster a nervous breakdown

Before you evict them could you please pass on the sad news that their second cousin Horace died early this morning in a freak cardboard/catalogue recycling incident!

No problems - im delivering one piece of bad news so might as well deliver 2! You have no idea how hard it is writing an eviction notice under a microscope...

oh god them spiders are just like the ones I had in my old house!!
my son was only a baby and was lying on his mat playing , when suddenley one of those hugh things came running out from the side of the couch and running towards him, the only thing to do was to squash it, ......oohhh it was horrible, white gunk was oozing out...ewwwww....lol...funny thing where 10 minutes later another came out, but i mangaged to get rid of that by putting in the garden

my daughter is petrified of them, she just panicks and goes into a cold sweat, one time she nearly fainted!!, not nice at all

Mrs has a very similar recation - goes cold, white, and half a bottle of port is then required to relieve the stress!!

If you want to see a spider worthy of the name try this one:
http://arachnophiliac.info/burrow/gallery/tarantulas/images/pterinochilus_murinus_1.jpg

You don’t get any idea of its size from the picture but I can assure that it could straddle your hand. Called a Baboon Spider it is not poisonous to humans, well not really. But the bite can be quite painful. I came across these critters in Capetown where they also had king sized cockroaches. How about a cockroach some 4 inches long and tough enough so that you could stand on one and not kill it.
