I agree with you, the Spanish system is great, you just take your rubbish to the nearest containers and they are emptied around midnight - every night! And if you have an article you no longer want, leave it by the container and someone will find it a good home - simple recycling!

Re: Another Rubbish thread

I sorted it out when it went over onto wheelie bins. But Hyndburn does have a scheme like Rossendales just ring the council up and ask them about it.

Re: Another Rubbish thread

you are quite correct about refuse (basura) collections in spain roy, was every night of the week where i lived n equivalent rates/ etc are nowhere near what we pay in the uk, as you will have discovered, so my question is if they can collect any amount daily fer a damn site less funding, why can ours collect next to nowt in comparison fortnightly fer a damn site more.

Just as a rider to my post....there are 350 apartments in the 6 blocks and all are serviced by these disposal units.
Emptied in ten minutes.....That is at least four streets in the UK.
No problem...........The Spanish are not daft after all.
Not bad at football either?

How come they are as strong as an Ox if you declare you require assistance, yet can hardly manage to fall out the wagon for normal duties ?

Re: Another Rubbish thread

What I don't understand is, how on earth people's bins are getting too full anyway? There are 9 of us in our house and we barely fill our bin. We recycle everything we can, and don't mind doing it.

Re: Another Rubbish thread

I must admit i fill my bin every 2 weeks (very rarely have any over though) and yes it can be heavy sometimes, but its bound to be with all the nappies i go through really. I recycle what I can but still seem to have a lot of rubbish

Re: Another Rubbish thread

in Blackburn we have new, smaller wheelie bins now and they are collected weekly, i havent a clue why though, if you recycle properly as Gail said ,you should have no problem, i never had a problem with fortnightly bin collections, we now use our old big wheelie bin for ALL our recycling, cans, tins, paper, cardboard and even yoghurt pots and tetra pak cartons now, it all goes into one big bin and that is collected fortnightly...not all areas in Blackburn have to recycle though, the houses down the Whitebirk estate havent been made to recycle, which i think is just stupid, i've been doing it for years and i'll carry on doing it....got a very nice compost bin on the go at the moment too

Exclamation Re: Another Rubbish thread

You couldn’t make it up!

Just heard as a factoid on the wireless (Radio 2 Steve Wright) that the first town to implement the chipped wheelie bins has abandoned the scheme because the equipment wasn’t reliable enough. It only cost the taxpayer ONE MILLION POUNDS as a grant.

Sounds about right at least now we won't have to fit locks on them all to make sure no body else was filling them.Bring on the next hair - brained scheme.

Apparently the service is very good, for those too disabled, or frail to put out their own wheelie bin. I know an old lady who's disabled, and all she has to do is make sure the gate is unlocked. They take, and then return her bin, and she's very happy with the service.

Absolutely mad isn't it? Do they employ people to dream up schemes to waste money on?

I can't see this happpening round here.

Re: Another Rubbish thread

I read in last weekend's papers that although the government are keen to bring in charges by weight for rubbish dispoosal, no council wants to be the testing ground, because it will be so unpopular.
