Re: Another sad lose for Hyndburn

This is very sad news.

I worked with Len for many years, most of the time when he was Chairman of Environmental Health. He was truly one of the old school of councillors, an astute politician who had no time for the flannel that council officers produce when they are unsure of the facts or are trying to justify their existence. His only concern was what was best for the borough, and once he knew that you shared that aim, he was a friend for life. I have personal cause to be grateful to Len for the support he gave when the going got tough.

I remember once running into Len on holiday in Blackpool, and we spent a pleasant afternoon putting the world to rights.

A real character who will be sadly missed, and a great loss to the borough.

RIP

Len Dickinson was highly respected across the community and fulfilled many roles during his decades of public service - Councillor, Alderman, Mayor, Magaistrate, School Governor, to name but a few. My condolences to his widow Jean and all his family. Does anyone know when the funeral is?

The funeral will be held on the afternoon of July 18 at Accrington Crematorium, according to the Evening Telegraph.

I knew Len when I worked at Accrington Post Office between 1971 and 1982. He was quite a character and will be sadly missed. Rest in peace, Len.

Re: Another sad lose for Hyndburn

I attended Len's funeral service today at Church Kirk. Many councillors and officers past and present from Hyndburn Borough Council came to pay their respects to a man who dedicated his life to public service. Rest in peace, Len!

The likes of Len started out in politics when you worked for the community without financial reward, not sure if the new bread of councillors have the same commitment as these old stalwarts
