Another Teenager Shot Dead!!!!
There have been reports on the news of a teenager being shot dead in Sheffield. I know we have members who are for corporal punishment and other members who are against it. I was just wondering how in your view we can slow down the decline that is happening in this country at the moment. We seem to have lost all control with regards to violent crime. How many more families are going to lose a child to mindless violence before something is done to slow this mindless violence?

Re: Another Teenager Shot Dead!!!!
In my opinion, there’s a raft of issues that would have to be dealt with in order to slow down the occurrence of violent crime.
There seems , in general terms, to be less respect for authority these days.
I know myself that I was far less strict with my daughter’s upbringing than my parents were with me. I’m sure my parents were less strict with me than their parents were with them and so down the line. So in some respects we, the parents, have to hold our hands up.
Schooling is far different these days, far more freedom to express yourself and if you overstep the mark there seems to be little in the way of punishment. It needs addressing.
Policing, what’s happened to that ? I would like to see the police back on the beat. Police boxes back on the streets. The police should know their territory, the individuals who are troublesome. Have a word with the child who is stealing from the corner shop, nip it in the bud. Small crimes lead to larger crimes.
Prison should be feared again. Human rights must be forgone in prison. Prisons are overcrowded because prisoners have a lifestyle akin to that of being at home and in some instances better than that of many law abiding citizens. How many prisoners do you think will die this winter because of hypothermia?? Feed them, water them, allow them to wash and have them breaking rocks in a yard for 12 hours.
The media must change. Do we need all this up to the minute crime reporting. I don’t think it always serves us well.
So called pop artist/rap artists whatever they are, they shouldn’t be allowed to lyricise about beating their women or gang feuds. Similar rules must be made for the makers of films, TV programmes, Playstation type games and so on.
Kids are impressionable, always have been, always will be.
Those are just a few ideas I had kicking around in my head. I’m sure there are a lot of other issues that require attention.

Re: Another Teenager Shot Dead!!!!
Yes you are right about us seeming to be more lenient with our kids but even allowing for that things are going badly wrong. There must be some way to pull back some control or god help us in the future.

Re: Another Teenager Shot Dead!!!!
I believe this thread should primarily be about condolences and not punishments just yet. Seems a little insensitive.
RIP to the lad who was killed. 16 years old is far too early to go

How absurd. Of course they're trying to sort this.
There isn't always clear cause & effect you know.
I just think ultimate sensitivity is due as it is a very sad story and it only happened today.

I'm not attempting to be confrontational and I'm truely sorry if you have taken offence at this thread. When would you suggest that folks "ultimately" get off their arse and do something. This thread as I understand is about suggestions to aid the decline of violent crime....I must be missing summat 'ere

Re: Another Teenager Shot Dead!!!!
That was the reason I raised the thread, maybe I was thoughtless. Would just feel better if positive action was being taken to try to eradicate this type of thing. At the moment it seems we are reading about this type of thing all to often. And nobody appears to have any reasonable suggestions to put forward on how to slow this downward spiral this country appears to be in.

I'm not taking offence at all.
A sixteen year old lad died today. Now, maybe it hit me a little harder than it did with you, but when I read the reports I didn't automatically think about how the Government should be changing laws and policies. I was thinking about how much of a tragedy it is, and how much pain his family must be in.
Of course dealing with the problem of gun crime in this country is very important, but for me, our primary thoughts should be with those directly affected.

Thought I would pull this thread out and dust it off, It's from last week and when it was first posted someone thought it was a tad disrespectuf in it's timing. Fair comment. I know lots of you have strong views on sutch things so I for one would like to see them. For those who int all that bothered...Sorry

When I talk to my local Police they do know who the trouble makers are. maybe a lot of it has come down to lack of power by the police. What ever happened to the kids being scared of the local bobby?
