Another thread about recycling
Yesterday our recyclabes were collected, or not, as the case may be. We are told to "present them at the edge of the property" which basically means at the garden gate.
Yesterday we had several items all full - a blue sack, a blue box, a white sack, a green bag and a pile of cardboard. The options were to stack them all on top of each other making it a precarious pile, stack them next to each other with some out on the pavement causing an obstruction or stack them next to each other with some further inside the garden than others. We chose the latter option which seemed the most sensible.
The blue sack, blue box and white sack were emptied. The cardboard was removed. The green bag was left behind. Could that perhaps have been because it was the furthest in and that by the time they came for it if the others had already gone it was deemed not to be "presented at the edge of the property"?
I could be wrong but I suspect that if we'd left it out on the pavement and someone had fallen over it we would have been liable for any injuries sustained - not to mention the fact that doing so makes life difficult for people in electric wheelchairs and mothers with prams, a point which is raised many times when shops are told they may not have those little advertising boards outside on the pavement.
Would it really have been beyond the collectors to have put one foot on the garden path in order to pick it up?
Now I have phoned the council this morning to let them know it is still here and I have been asked to leave it out there for the next 24-48 hours and someone will come back for it. 48 hours? Imagine what would happen if I put my rubbish out 48 hours in advance! I'd be in trouble for having it out on the wrong day wouldn't I?
Not to mention the fact that it's a very flimsy bag and very full and is very likely to get ripped over the next 48 hours.

Re: Another thread about recycling
Good point.
It's not as if this is the first time it's happened - not with the same bag though. We've had paper left one time and cardboard left.

Re: Another thread about recycling
I've just realised that not only was the green bag not taken, the blue sack and white sack were not returned. I'd assumed one of the kids had taken them through to the back but they are not there! I have to go out now but I shall be phoning the council again when I get back to request replacement sacks. I can ask them then to find out why things keep getting missed.

Re: Another thread about recycling
If you're in town Willow you can get replacement blue or white sacks from the tourist information bit in the town hall, it's usually quicker than waiting for the council to send them to you

Re: Another thread about recycling
We had the same problem with cardboard once they took everything else and left that. Had to ring the office to get it collected.

I'll pick up some bags tomorrow - still phoned them about the failure to return them and query how come things are missed but no answer forthcoming.

Re: Another thread about recycling
Do you mean your green textiles sack? No harm in leaving that out for 24-48 hours is there? That won't be attracting the vermin. I know what you mean though, it should be collected first time.
We've had our green textiles sack left behind once too. I didn't ring up though, it wasn't full so I just brought it back in and put it out again 2 weeks later, it got collected that time. It's a different van that collects textiles isn't it? It's not the one that collects glass and plastic etc. If anything gets left it does seem to be the textiles, wonder why?

Re: Another thread about recycling
Ours is absolutely full up. No, it won't attract vermin but it is an obstruction and I thought that was the council's complaint about the advertising boards.

Would I be able to pick up a wheelie bin from there? Mine was nicked some time ago when I reported it I was told I would have to wait 6 weeks for a replacement, yes,I'm still waiting it's my own fault though, I kept the bin clean and some sh*tty ar*e stole it to replace their smelly bin!

I think HBC do a pretty decent job, it is just there are different collection vans for different things and occasionally something gets left. When they left our cardboard we phoned the office and it was collected later.
