About a dozen private firms and local authorities expressed an interest in taking over. That was slimmed down to 1 Council, 1 public charitable trust and 4 private companies. Two bids were received. BwD and Hyndburn Leisure Trust merged with Pendle LT. BwD was the best but neither met the criteria. It was decided that BwD was almost good enough and to take them on from the 1st April to run all leisure servoces in Hyndburn.
Some details have to ironed out as Hyndburn Leisure Trust gave notice in the Autumn to quit as they could not run it as a business. They owe the Council Tax Payer £280,000 this year and were bailed out with grants and loans last year approximatley £200,000 losing the CT payer the best part of£500,000 approximately, equivilant to £15 per household or 12% on the Council Tax.
