Have you thought of electronic remote control?

I'll get back to you with this nearer the weekend. It involves a servo motor driving a lead screw, as one possible solution.

How about something like internal caravan doors where you just push the button in and it releases the catch? The door then pops slightly open and to close you just push it shut and the catch takes hold again. You could make the conservatory windows with less fiddly, bigger knobs, easier for an elderly or disabled person to cope with. (Thinking or arthritic fingers)

A pull-down arm which is connected to the window latch with a swivel joint. The arm can be clipped to the wall next to the window. This requires only one action to open and close the window, and all is done just above waist height.

Is there a requirement that it has to be secure against break-ins, or are you just required to look at the opening mechanism?
