Anyone noticed this ...
smaller packets of food etc = same price as what you paid before?
BBC News - The incredible shrinking shopping baskets
i dont take much notice ... i just grab what i want and pay at the till ... i look at the price and notice it if the price has gone up ... but never think of checking the weight or volume ... Think its a sneaky way of getting more money instead of putting the price up .....

Re: Anyone noticed this ...
Yes, I used to get some sliced cheddar cheese for Ma......250 grms in ten slices.
25grms per slice, just right for a butty.....then it went down to 200grms(no price reduction) now it is down to 180 grms and the price has gone up by 25 pence a pack.
I do tend to check the weights of the products because sometimes the 'offers' can be misleading........you can be paying more, not less.
When himself goes out on his own to shop, I know that he doesn't check.

Re: Anyone noticed this ...
When comparing different brands of the same product, I always look at the 'price per 100g' - it is easy to do when you shop on line. When I shopped in store it wasn't possible.

Price per unit is on the price label in store I always always use it, esp when buying toilet rolls!

Re: Anyone noticed this ...
The supermarkets are at it all the time. Lidl got me last week. I buy my cheese and natural yogurt from there. They had some delicious Lake District Cheese Co mature cheddar that was reduced slightly a few weeks ago. They take it in turns to reduce something for a few days and then put it up again, sometimes dearer than before. Last week it was reduced by £1, so I bought 3 blocks. When I got home I found it was not the tasty stuff I had always had previously but mild cheddar even though it said mature cheddar on the wrapper. Then I vaguely remembered it was previously extra mature cheddar that I had and this was different stuff. But in Lidl there is no extra mature cheddar any more, just this 'mature' cheddar. But the packaging is exactly the same. I wonder how many fell for it.
They are always messing with price labels on shelves, so they put something different under where there is a good bargain. It will say, for example, Product X 100gm for £1, but there are no 100gm underneath, just 200gm which is far more expensive. Or they will have Product X 100gm but it is not the exact flavour that the reduction applies to. Well dodgy.

Re: Anyone noticed this ...
Most people have made or heard the comment 'I'm sure Mars bars were bigger when I was a kid!', well that's because they were, as were any other chocolate bar, bag of crisps, etc, manufacturers make things slightly smaller instead of increasing the price, even big macs are smaller (so are the baps they serve them in!), more recently the supermarkets govern the price and the manufacturers comply with costs by reducing size.

Cheese is the worst.. special offers like "get one free" can be misleading because packs of cheese come in so many sizes and there are no standard weights of packs.. like you say the only way is to check the price per 100g.

Re: Anyone noticed this ...
What always baffles me is when the government release inflation rates.. I think the present rate is supposed to be around 4.5%..but you can walk in tesco and pay say £1.20 for milk one day and the day after it's £1.49... same goes for most everyday food items.
Petrol is always hitting all time highs, domestic fuel prices have increased and are about to soar...4.5%?.. I don't think so!

Walkers crisps look like they just come of the roller, before being filled
