Re: Appreciating Accrington

Hang on here though..now I've got this image of Accrington as some sort of wild west town.. bods walking around tooled up with shooters!.. I don't think that is reality is it?... and as for wether these people have a gun license for a gun is irrellevant... to my mind I can't see any reason for anyone being legally able to own a gun and ammunition.... all the arguments about sport or farmers having shotguns to protect sheep is rubbish...It's a gun..which sooner or later will be used as a weapon to rob or shoot people.

Re: Appreciating Accrington

as far as i am aware laws were brought in years ago that a fire arm had to be kept in a locker at a gun club and can no longer been kept in the house

i think farmers are allowed shot guns and folk who do hunting are usualy equipped with high powered air rifels and not automatic pistols or revolvers

its a bit late to be googleing about but im pretty sure anyone with a gun in their house is doing so illigally no matter what licence they say they have unless of course your a farmer

gamekeepers are probably allowed guns as well but only on the land they tend

basicly i cant see any excuse for having a fire arm in the house but they are definatly out there in the hands of teenagers as was shown when that little boy was shot dead last year in broad day light

Re: Appreciating Accrington

Yes Accyman I think that is the case...shotguns are held legally by grouse and pheasant shooting clubs.. and 22 rifles are legally owned (not air rifles) 22m bullet rifles...the 22 rifles were legally owned by the bloke that massacred the kids in Dunblane...that is when any thoughts of anyone being legally allowed to own guns starts to rack me!

no its not reality, the thing is though a lot of bad stuff does go on, and many people unless directly involved or have friends or family who are choose fer what ever reason, not to accept it. its a british trait to me, exactly the same thing happened during the "Miners Strike" n to this day many cannot/will not accept what actually occured.

Don't think guns per se are really that much of a problem ... it's the gun "mentality" and the gun "culture" that are problems. In "Bowling for Columbine" Moore had some observations about the difference between Canadians and Americans, using as a convenient example the cities of Windsor (it's in Canada by the way) and Detroit, just across the bridge from Windsor ... In any given year Detroit has around 700 murders, most of them commited with guns, and Windsor, a city of comparable size, has maybe one or two. And in general, he observed that while Canadians have about as many guns per capita as the Americans, they don't get into shooting people very much. I have eight guns ... well, if you count the three Lee Enfield .303s that I am attempting to restore ... all legal, all legally stored .... and, to the best of my knowledge, I've never shot anyone I didn't buy any of them for personal protection .... I have a shotgun in order to shoot my xmas dinner, for example. Of course certain kinds of guns are illegal in Canada, fully automactic weapons and assault rifles of course, and others, hand guns for example, are very difficult to obtain and can be stored and transported under strict conditions. But if you are a hunter, getting a gun is not much of a problem.
