Archbishop slams social network sites.

"Facebook and MySpace might contribute towards communities, but I'm wary about it. It's not rounded communication so it won't build a rounded community," he said.

Facebook and MySpace can lead children to commit suicide, warns Archbishop Nichols - Telegraph

Although it's probably helped the thousands of people, via the many support groups that exist for surviors on Facebook, who were abused as children by Catholic priests.

"We're losing social skills, the human interaction skills, how to read a person's mood, to read their body language, how to be patient until the moment is right to make or press a point.'

...and that quote looks like it could have been lifted directly from a handbook on grooming.

More moralising from someone who should ensure their own house is in order, before they worry about what's happening in the homes of others.

Re: Archbishop slams social network sites.

...by the way, I'm not having a dig at Catholics, just the church.

I've criticised terrorism and the human rights atrocities carried out in the name of religion, such as the attack last night in Tel Aviv, it doesn't mean all followers of those religions are responsible.

Re: Archbishop slams social network sites.

i suppose fcebook could lead teenagers to consider suicide

when they log in and find no ones aded them they may feel unpopular and alione in teh world pmsl

or maybe when somone invites them to joinn the " do teh world a favour and kill your self network " they actually join

other than that i cant see facebook causing death to anyone

Re: Archbishop slams social network sites.

If the clergy had half a brain they'd keep their traps shut, the C of E will tear itself apart pretty soon

Lots.

I think it was Gayle the other week, who said technology can be used to (virtually) meet and make friends with people you'd never come into contact otherwise.

I'm sure there are lots of isolated people who enjoy sharing their thoughts on the various faith groups on social networking sites.

Some people have committed suicide after reading certain books.
Would the Archbishop condem the reading of all books too?

Someone you're close to?

I do hope it wasn't one of my threads.

I joined, after it was mentioned on here, and that there was an Accy Web group on there, and then didn't bother with it for ages.

Now it's the first thing I check in the morning. I've made contact with people I'd totally lost touch with. It's much better than Friends Reunited for that.

There's every sort of group you can imagine. There's probably even a group for people like you.

Quizes, forums, debates, games, even live Scrabble, though I'm having a rest from that for a while because I began dreaming about words!

I've made some great friends through the garden application I play, and like most things you have to take care, and realise it's a virtual world, but I don't really see what the Archbishop fears so much.

If you get a chance, give it a go.

You trusted me on the Accy Web quiz, trust me on this, you'll like it.
