Re: Are we too reserved or too scared to bother our NHS?
Okay here goes. This is what happened with me on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Monday teatime - i had another fit and so wasnt well. I woke up in bed and i was ok. No bruising, i'd bitten my tongue, no lumps i could find. I made my tea and then fell asleep. Woke up at 8.15 with the phone going mad. It was pool. I was feeling ok and so went to the pub. Anyway 10pm comes and my shoulder starts hurting everytime i moved it. So came home about 10.30 and took an ibuprofen the ones the doc gives me and warmed up the wheat bags in the microwave. 1am i gave up and rang nhs direct to ask if i could take another ibuprofen because it hadnt kicked in. The nurse said she'd get someone to ring back in 45 mins. 2.15 am they rang back. Because i didnt have anyone to take me to casualty she said she would get the emergency doctor to come and visit me. Anyway next thing the phone goes again. It was the emergency doctors nurse - she told me to go straight to casualty. When i asked how do i get there and she said do you live with anyone i said no and she said ring for an ambulance. I said i cant do that she said you can you are in pain. So i did what she told me to rang for an ambulance. They were really nice. I got strapped up and took to casualty at Blackburn. There i got told off by the nurse for dialling 999 and ringing for the ambulance. i said i got told to. and explained what went on. anyway she told me that i should have rang for a taxi to bring me. Anyway had all the xrays etc and they gave painkilers and a nurse told me to ask reception and they would ring a taxi for me. Got a taxi home and it cost me £10.
I tried treating myself and only gave in when i when i was in much too pain that i know i wouldnt have slept. All i can say is thank you to the ambulancemen and nurses and doc that i saw on Tuesday morning.
