Army immunity must stop

What are your views on this subject. * Army accident immunity 'must end' *
The MoD should not be immune from prosecution for non-combat deaths or injuries, families say.

Nothing like a nice easy topic for a Sunday Ianto.W. Thanks!

I think that the MOD should be stripped of its Crown immunity but it would be up to the plaintiff to prove negligence to win the case.

In the case of Mr Richards, the live ammo should not have been anywhere near the exercise and the Quartermaster issuing the ammo should have made sure that only blanks were issued. The officer in charge should have made sure that it was only blanks that were to be used. Thus there was negligence in the issuing of ammunition. There had to be otherwise the live ammo would not have got to the exercise.

Even in times of war there can still be negligence attributed to an incident.

Off topic, so appologies, but still on the armed forces.

Just read in the Sunday Times that troops going to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq, are being encouraged to take out extra life assurance, as the MOD's pot has apparently run dry. It could cost up to £1,000 to get adequate extra insurance, or the equivalent of a month's salary.

Troops face £1,000 life cover bill - Times Online

Disgraceful.

Angry Re: Army immunity must stop

This government and the previous lot have sold our troops down the river to save money to pay for the war that the troops are fighting in. To pay umpteen millions to the EU. To pay for an ID card that very few people want. To pay even more millions for a computer system for the NHS that has yet to work properly. To name just a few white elephants.

It is not just time for a change of government but a change to the way the government is put into office.

I cannot understand how the weak leadership of Blair lasted so long following Junior Bush blndly into this unwinnable situation in Iraq, Afganistan has withstood countless attemts to conquer it. Did these two idiots not study history?
