Asbestos Left In Rhyddings Park

When walking in Rhyddings Park on Tuesday afternoon I found this pile of what looks like asbestos had been left by some workmen who had been repairing the roof of the works buildings at the top of the park. I think it is asbestos, it looks like it to me. How on earth can the Council leave this where residents and especially children walk past all the time? Do they not know that one asbestosis fibre can later in life cause asbestosis which can kill you?

Re: Asbestos Left In Rhyddings Park

Yeh Cac it looks like part of an asbestos roof to me u can see the white edges, really should of been dealt with by the specialist asbestos team which Hyndburn Homes have contracted them to sort out asbestos related removals. As i learnt from the team 'white' abestos is not the seriously dangerous type but if broken the fibres get into the atmosphere into lungs, the technician of an asbestos specialist says anymore than 5 fibres found in that space would be classed dangerous & would have to be re cleaned, so even this should of been removed & disposed of with accordance to asbestos guidelines. Certainly not in a park where children particulary are at risk of knocking it over etc - the council should be accountable for this & a complaint should be logged to them or to the environmental health dept soon as that is very worrying being broken like that but also at risk from being broken more.

If the park belongs to the council then presumably the workmen were hired by the council. The council is therefore responsible for this health hazard and should do something about getting it shifted PDQ. Have you complained to them about it?

Its white asbestos and though not as dangerous as blue or brown is still a hazard. Its broken and should have been sealed and disposed of straight away with no ifs or buts. This is a serious breach of health and saftey regs regaurding bug. Whoever sanctioned this needs skinned alive.

Re: Asbestos Left In Rhyddings Park

I am surprised I missed this. I saw it on Tuesday afternoon when in the park with my children. I phoned up Wednesday morning and asked if it could be removed as I was concerned it was a hazard for park users.

Has anyone checked to see if the assorted missing pets aren't hiding behind it?
