Re: australian hung in singapore

I dont why there should be any fuss...

This is prominently displayed at Changi airport :

' DRUG WARNING.

Drug abuse is taken VERY seriously in Singapore. The death penalty is mandatory for those convicted of trafficking, manufacturing, importing or exporting any one of the following: 15g of heroin, 30g of morphine, 30g of cocaine, 500g of cannabis, 200g of cannabis resin, 1.2 kg of opium.

Possession of such quantities is deemed as prima facie evidence of trafficking. Those convicted of unauthorised drug consumption face maximum imprisonment of 10 years, fine of SGD 20,000, or both.

Your landing card repeats the message in big black letters.

He was carrying 400grams, anyone normally caught with 15grams faces the death penalty.

now some might say only 400grams but in reality there is 26000 hits of heron in 400gms.
He knew what he was doing and knew the punishment.
and it could have easily ended up in the our streets.

no sympathy.

you live by the sword - you die by the sword

Talking of differing punishments throughout the world, interesting to note that in Saudi Arabia recently two adult men were executed recently for having a consensual affair.

Could that too be said to be live by the sword, die by the sword?

Re: australian hung in singapore

yeah but countries like saudi arabia are pretty backward and stuck in the B.C era when it comes to crime and punishment

yes i am saying they are a barbaric race , dont they still stone people to death for minor crimes as well ...?

the thing about this australian is that his crime ( drug dealer ) is seen as a bad crime throughout the CIVILISED world so no one has any sympathy for him

been gay isnt a crime in the civilised world because we are civilised and know better so when we read about people been executed for been gay it shocks us yet i suppose in saudi arabia it is accepted and they saw it as an acceptble risk that if caught they would be killed

not saying its right but lets face it they are pretty barbaric they even flog people in the street if found drunk in public , i would have no skin on my back left if i ever went there lol

In the civilised world gays just get the kickings of the narrow minded scum of questionable origins. Think I would take the chop over the sreatch it would be instant.

Re: australian hung in singapore

the death sentence is never going to deter criminals ,especially criminals who go to the likes of these places to commit crime..ie garry glitter and the deceased australian fellow..maybe its because the laws in their own countries are so slack, they have blatent disregard for any other countries..lets face it drug dealing back homes a much sought after career for some folk ..so criminals will continue going to tailand or places that do have the death sentence, with the attiude of the reward's greater than the risk ..and maybe their own goverment might be able to supply them with a get out of jail free card ...

Tell that to the family of the train driver, Jack Mills who never recovered from his injuries and died later from complications directly relating to the bash on the head he received from Ronnie's lot.

Re: australian hung in singapore

i was making a comparison about crime ....terrorists over here murdered people and no one ever thought of their families when these folks were realeased from jail early ..these were'nt my personal; views ..http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/299635.stm
it just shows what a mockery the so called law is .....and to bring it all to a head some of these people are now mps and involved in local goverment ..its enough to make you want to emigrate....sorry again for bringing our troubles up on your webby

Re: australian hung in singapore

Geoff I see it over were I am on a regular basis and not just the bigatory but also the race hate to both foriegn and uk persons and have been on the receiving end of both. The worst thing is it will never be stamped out as the law is way too weak to deal with it. Singapore aint scared to carry out the dictates of its law along with many other countries. Britain thinks it is civillised but lets the very criminals treated harshly in other countries back on the streets to reoffend. If the troubles in your patch should of taught us is the law has to be firm or lawlessness takes over.

I would have to agree with you on that one Cashman.

When I caught somone breaking into my car last year (on my property as well I hasten to add) he got let off and I got into trouble becasue I gave him a bit of a slapping!

Thing is I had no choice in the matter, but becasue he comes of worse I'm the one who has to pay for it.

It seems to me that if you find intruders on your property then the law actually gives them the right to do as they please!
