Re: B&Ms
The fact that Woolworths has gone has left a very definite gap in the market.......and B&M are taking advantage of that.
Good luck to them.

I can't decide what Woolworths sold that you can't easily get elsewhere. Maybe thats why they went bump.

Re: B&Ms
Well, they sold everything,(well apart from houses and cars) pretty much didn't they? And usually cheaper than anywhere else.
I used to walk through the Blackburn branch everytime I was on a late shift at QPH...and I nearly always bought something.....from a chocolate bar for my afternoon break, or a pen, or some stationery item......and I can't believe I was the only one who did that.
When they closed the Blacburn store, it felt like the heart had been ripped out of the centre. OK, tell me I'm sad...but that is how it felt to me.

Re: B&Ms
I remember when B&M,s first opened in Cleveleys,it was a little tiny warehouse where the big car park is now,,,,..It was so cheap then ,that you didnt need to look at the price to know you were onto a winner,,,
You queued for ages to get in,Sometimes it looked like you were queueing for the pictures.(especialy near xmas time, They let you through the doors a few at a time ,because it was a fire hazard,,
now that was when everyone came in on buses ,the savings were worth the busfare

Re: B&Ms
I can remember trying to trim up a very large Nightingale Ward for Christmas....and was bemoaning the fact that we never had enough money to buy quality(and therefore longer lasting decorations, one of the tutors from the School of Nursing was up on the ward seeing a student, she mentioned B&M's and we went.
That year we had the best looking, best trimmed ward in the whole of the hospital.
We were dead chuffed.......to have done the decorating on our meagre budget.
That must be over 20 years ago now...so they definitely aren't a 'flash in the pan'

No one I know shopped at Woolworths but everyone felt better because it was there. A bit like church.
It wasn't particularly cheap either, as I recall.

Ken, it was like many shops of today...they had their 'loss leaders' which brought in the shoppers and once in there you invariably bought something else.

(Don't say value for money.)
