My gut feeling is that the decision is very dubious. Did he actually have any previous mental health problems? Haven't been keeping up with this so I may have missed something but the headline made me feel quite uneasy.
I feel very sorry for the mother.

Re: Balcony Plunge Dad Not Guilty Of Murder

Claiming insanity isn't the easy option. Many people who ARE insane prefer to claim they are guilty of murder to actually have a set sentence, as with claims of insanity you dont normally get set a specified time to spend in the institution and you can be kept there for life, as he most likely will be based on the fact he still doesnt see whats wrong with what he did.

Thats why dangerous people with mental problems end up back on the streets to reoffend. Nothing forces you to claim insanity, but if you do there is uncertainty. Much better to go to prison, be good and be out after two thirds of your sentence.

Not everyone who is depressed wants to kill themself though, and if she hadn't realised he'd stopped taking medication she'd not have thought there was a risk.

Not many people consider the risk of their husbands killing themselves and their children because they suffer from something that affects 1 in 4 adults or soemthing like that.
