Battle of the sexes.

Has the battle for sexual equality finished?

Inspired by the Playboy thread, I was searching websites and came across a woman's blog were she was petitioning for the removal of Playboy merchandise from stationary shops.

It all seemed so very 1970's, when feminism was at it's height as a political, activist movement. The days when, certainly in law and pay equality, there were differences between the sexes, and they perceived there was a worthwhile battle to be fought.

Certainly when I was a student in the 80's there was a very strong feminist movement. Cinemas showing films that were deemed offensive were picketted. Newsagents selling top shelf magazines were daubed in slogans equating pornography to rape.

Today female icons are women who have achieved success in many fields. From Madonna to Condolisa Rice, women of today can achieve whatever they set their mind to.

Do the successful women of today owe their feminist sisters a vote of thanks, or are the women of today to busy living their lives to care?

Did the fmale protesters of the 70's n 80's help the women of today well err.... no they proberly put it back 10 years. These women were seen as radical and as a result women in general were considered radical. Women have had to fight to prove they can be as good as men and in some cases a lot better. Women's sucess is down to the ability to multitask therefore giving them an advantage over most men. On the flip side men are quite willing to bring up their children and in some cases be house husbands taking on the role of the lady of the house. This has evolved as times have changed and will carry on as such until there is complete and unequivical equality. Some day govenment might be completely female and there might be a lot less crap and stupidity coming out because of it.

It was 'radical' women who got the vote and equal pay for women though.

I had some real ding dong arguments with one of my art history lecturers who was a strident feminist.

Feminism by it's very nature is sexist, and she could never come up with a very good argument as to how male pornography oppressed women.

Disagree with the radical women (suferagets) geting the women the vote it was because of the effort and the need for women in industry during the First World War. That was the biggest reason that they got it as a sort of reward.

Yes these radical women through perservierence might have aided equal pay. As for women being oppressed by pornography then why is there so much money to be made by the models n actresses in the industry. Yes they can and are exploited but they have the choice to get out but money rules.

Disagree with that spuggie, women where sent back home to look after the home and kids after the war. Our nursery nearly had to close after the war due to a lack of female staff. A womans place may have been helping during the war but wasn't after. Only families that struggled had the woman at work.

Far point but unfortunately now adays for a family to survive and have a decent standard of living then both men and women have to work,
