Beware Breakdown on a Sunday.

Have a mate whose car brokedown on Sunday (Timing Chain) He called his breakdown company, who then towed him home (all the accredited garages are closed on Sunday). They told him, he would have to get his own Tow,to n accredited garage on Monday, I have just left him, he has been unable to organise a tow at this point. I fail to see why the breakdown company "WILL NOT" help n he will have to pay fer his own tow, when he can get one?? They told him only one assistance for each breakdown, This i reckon is ludicrous when on Sundays the garages are closed.?? I am unaware if all of em are operating the same policy?? All i know is i sacked this well known company off years ago, cos i was not happy wi the service i was getting.

Re: Beware Breakdown on a Sunday.

Sounds out of order to me, but I`d be more worried about the cost of the repair. If the timing chain/belt has gone it can cause a lot of damage to the engine.

Re: Beware Breakdown on a Sunday.

Who said it has to be an accredited garage, the breakdown co.? Our car was picked up by RAC a couple of months ago ( mrs put petrol in instead of diesel ), and they would drop it anywhere within a certain distance ( 10 miles I think but not 100% ), but just got it dropped off at home.

Glad I didn`t use them then, I have both ( free ), but used the RAC cos it handily had their No. on the tax disk holder.

I have no complaints about them either, they would take car wherever I wanted it taken, and gave me a few tips on best way to sort it myself without having to pay a garage. Might stay with them when my free 12 month is up.

Oooh, isn't that embarrassing?

I remember having a near empty tank, filled it up, went in to pay, the lass said £30 of petrol, I replied, no, £30 of diesel, If you say so, she replied, I drove three miles into the countryside and then realised the mistake I had made...

Of course, it doesn't help because you were in a hurry to get somewhere, but had grabbed the wrong hose therefore leaving you with absolutely no-one else to blame!!!

No, I didn't get to my destination that night.

Re: Beware Breakdown on a Sunday.

I would have had them drop the car outside an "accredited" garage near home & drop me off at home. Timing chain is a fairly big job - very big if it's wrecked the engine - and a clapped out car doesn't make an attractive garden ornament.

I`ve come close myself, reached for the wrong one, luckily, realised before I`d put any in.
