Forgiving is a wise thing to do if you can manage it, because harbouring hate and bearing grudges prevents you from getting on with living.

Most people struggle to forgive and the passage of time helps.

It took me 20 years to forgive my ex husband for 8 years of hell.
Eventually I understood why he behaved as he did, and that was the start of forgiving.

Good points Margaret.

It's easier to forgive if an event is over and there is time to forgive. But not if someone is in a conflict zone and had their family killed, they often then take up arms to get revenge then another person loses family and then no one can forgive as it just spirals out of control. This is how you get these disputes that go on for decades with people in conflict.
