Bit worried

Over the last year or so ive been having quite a few problems with my chest, last year i went for a chest x ray which showed up that i had hyper ventilated lungs, ive been back and forwards to the doctors since and asked to be referred to see a specialist consultant. The hospital rang me today to say they have made a appointment for the middle of june but to ignore it as the consultant wants to see me next thursday now.Im worried now as i'm thinking they might have missed something on the chest x ray i had last year.Am i worrying to much? its just got me a bit scared as i dont know what to expect its just like a waiting game til next thursday.

Re: Bit worried

Rob- I hope it is nothing too serious.

I am not very good at giving health advice-- I posted here tonight about my health issues because I was worrying a lot until I got results. True I am still worrying about it, but not as much. I am sure users here can give you some better advice as I got some good advice from people here, via thread and via PM. All I can say Is I hope its nothing bad and try not to worry yourself too much.

I can't say "don't worry" 'cause you will. But remember that the health system ... and I'm assuming that yours is similar to ours ... is compartmentalized. Hospitals work according to their schedules. Your specialist ... who no doubt has pull in the system ... has his (or hers). Similar things happened to me 6 years ago. Wait, and worry, and hope for the best. And here's wishing you the best.

did they say hyperinflated lungs Rob........I have never heard of hyperventilated lungs(have to admit that my main field of expertise was in Women's disorders - gynaecology, but I did take interest in all other fields of medicine too).

Like Eric has said, telling you not to worry is pointless....you will do it anyway.
The good thing is you are being seen soon. I would also say, don't read too much into this at present....it may just be that they have a clinic slot free because someone has cancelled an appointment.

Here's wishing you well.

Margaret is right, appointments are often filled quickly when there is a cancellation. The NHS is not allowed to have free clinic slots, they have to be filled, so they will often bring appointments forward. Please try not to worry too much, I know it's hard not to, but you are being seen very soon. Good Luck :-)

Re: Bit worried

Lettie and Marg have said what I was going to post last night. Probably a cancelled appointment that you are lucky to have been given - saves an extra few months of worrying.

All the best and here's hoping all turns out well.

I've been attending chest clinics for over 30 years Rob and have never heard of that before, but don't worry, I have often had an appointment brought forward for the same reason lettie said, in fact its actually better for you, getting something sorted out earlier, hope everything goes well

Afraid I can't offer any medical advice, but I hope your fears are laid to rest when you go to see them.

All the best.

Re: Bit worried

Thankyou all for your kind words, it means alot.I feel more reassured however the worry is still there.I meant to say hyper inflated lungs last night, my head was just in a spin last night with all sorts of thoughts running round my head.I just wish i had a pair of lungs that actually worked properly. Its just hard especially these last few years i havent half the energy i used to have, some days i really do struggle breathing, to give people an idea of how it affects me im out of breath if i walk from the war memorial in ossy just up to the coop, im having to use my inhaler.Ive been a paintsprayer all my working life and have worked in some very unpleasant places which has caused all these problems im having to live with now.

It could be something as simple as the specialist wanting time off and he is moving stuff forward, you will be coming on here next week telling us it was nowt. Anyway you are going with all our best wishes.

People on here are very supportive. I posted about an illness earlier this year and was pleasantly surprised at all the encouraging messages I received.

Keep your chin up.

Re: Bit worried

Really sorry for the late reply ive only just got my internet connection back up and working, ive had allsorts of problems with it.Anyway my appointment at the hospital showed up some abnormalities in my lungs which need to be investigated further, ive now to wait for a appointment at Royal blackburn my consultant has said it will take around an hour to complete the tests and they will be able to find out how much oxygen my lungs are able to extract , still feel the same with my chest but im not worrying as much.
