Probably being paid for by Hyndburn residents anyway. Don't forget that Blackburn & Darwen council were touted as running Hyndburn Leisure. So charge lots of money for using the facilities in Hyndburn and then syphon it off over the border

You'd better get training for the London Olympics.

I can see you running around on a mat, with those long ribbons, and at least they won't get caught in your hair now.

You don't get anywhere complaining about what someone else has got, that's what I always got taught.

How many people of hyndburn would actually USE free sports facilities? It isn't too expensive to use them now.

I would hate to think that someones only having a whinge about it just for the sake of having the facility, rather than there being an actual demand for it from the public majority.

So they ask the public " Would you like something for free ", of course the answer will be "No"

Re: Blackburn & Darwen residents to get free sports & leisure facilities

A few years ago I paid a couple of quid and could spend the morning on various activities .... I used the tai chi lessons and the swimming tuition..... there were more things I could have filled the morning with... I think aerobics was one.

The changing rooms were grotty and the excercise room floor was dusty.
The pool was very highly chlorinated, which indicates that it had been peed in rather a lot!

The main sports facilities in Lancaster are actually on the university campus. It has the only swimming baths in Lancaster too, but it uses special oxygenating systems rather than chlorine. I don't know how it works, but its meant to be kinder. I haven't been into the actual pool though just in case

I am not sure if I agree that it will improve health. You don't need to use a gym to be healthy. I can't understand the fascination of going to the gym to use a running machine etc. We live in a beautiful part of the Country, just walk around our street and local parks for free. It might cause a bit of a surge at first because its is free. I suppose it will five those who don't want to work something to do. Maybe it should be free for the employed only for a change. The unemployed should be getting enough exercise hanging around the town centre all day.

Re: Blackburn & Darwen residents to get free sports & leisure facilities

Don't get too envious, since Blackburn Transport was sold to Transdev the cost of leisure facilities is accademic to many who live in BwDBC. We simply can not get out o9f the house. Our buses only seem to run on main roads and if you live away from the main road you either have HAVE to have a car or order a taxi.

The north of Blackburn in particular has trouble acessing a council run gym or swimming pool, as everything is at the other end Shadsworth and Darwen .
We pay full council tax but there is nothing for us to use nearby.
