Blackburn with Darwen Brass Band

Not strictly a discuss for Accrington Web but my wife surprised me last night with a trip to the Empire Theatre in Blackburn to see the band play.

Absolutely superb stuff, anyone else seen them?

Not really my barrow Ken, but many years ago I was working in a shop in Wakefield and three of the family were members of a Brass Band, and that night they were playing in the club across the road, so after we'd finished we took a look for an hour and it was quite enjoyable

We got Fucik's 'Florentiner March' as the first item from the senior band and Doctor Who from the junior band. There was a fair old bit that I'd never heard played in brass before, good stuff.

We never got Souza's 'Liberty Bell' though, VERY disappointing!

Brass Band concerts can be extremely enjoyable .. the players are very accomplished.

Brings memories back of my dad though... he played in dance bands and orchestras (semi-professional), but when a brass band was hired for the local annual church walk ... tears streamed down his face to their music. (Aaaw).

Last August went to a wedding where the groom was a member of a Wigan brass band. He had his colleagues playing there. Sounded lovely in the Church. Only criticism was ... they played pieces I did not know and found it rather boring .... the Floral Dance (as mentioned) would have been more light relief...
