Re: British Values

British values will always be what we deem them to be. Dosnt mater if its age old tradition or something you hold true yourself. If you have values and abide by them that is all that matters. We can instill values in others but they will choose their own.

Decency knows no country. It is universal and depends entirely upon the individual and how he or she was raised.

Re: British Values

British Values?

Politeness,good manners
Courage
Justice
Equality?
Pride in your nation

I believe all the above are basic "British Values" but sadly the press and the media as a whole debase these values daily and some "British" people go along with it.

Re: British Values

Values are linked to culture. Now Britain is multicultural we need to accept that other cultures have different values. That does not mean that we will have to modify ours - just need to respect the fact that other cultures have different values.
As an example - Italians have a culture so strongly 'family orientated' that their old people are respected and valued more than ours - so you see that some other cultural values may well be worth taking on board with ours

Re: British Values

We have to respect the values and customs of others but do they respect ours?

Britishness.

Queuing patiently.

Supporting the underdog.

Believing it's the taking part that counts, and not the winning...except for the World Cup, and any Brit who makes it past the first round at Wimbledon.

Talking about the weather at every opportunity.

A superior feeling that you are always right, and if Johnny foreigner doesn't understand what you are saying in English, just say it again...but shout it.

I thought it was; being the underdog, winning has to be done at all costs, and allways thinking we are the superior race and culture.

That just about sums it up.

I would just add moaning to family and friends and not to the person who can actually do something about the cause of the moan.

Re: British Values

Queuing seems to have gone by the board these days. It really annoys me when I have queued patiently for a bus and people come along and shove in at the front, head for the front seats and I am left to make my way to the back (if there are any seats left there) which I find difficult on a moving bus as I have trouble balancing.

Well why didn’t you say something about it instead of just standing there like a Muppet?

If you let people trample all over you they will.

The real British value used to be looking out for each other. Today it is a me, me, me, me, me, me, me society.

Sometimes I’m ashamed of being British.

I did but I was too far behind other people who were being pushed in front of to actually be able to insist on getting on the bus in front of them.

A few weeks ago at the switching on of Blackpool illuminations again we had been queuing all day and, towards the end of the afternoon when they opened the gate to let people in, crowds came across the road from Coral Island and headed to the front of the queue. Those of us who had queued all day DID complain. We complained to the ones pushing in and we complained to the security guards who were letting them in.

Did it have any effect? Not one iota. The security bods just smiled, shrugged their shoulders and let them in anyway.

BTW - disagree with my viewpoint or opinions as much as you like but is it really necessary to degenerate into childish name calling? And to think Less thought it would be newbies who would disrupt the calm we were enjoying for a while.
