British Values
I seem to hear various people use the phrase "British Values"
I have my own values, some instilled by my parents, some I have picked up just through everyday life. I consider myself a good person who knows right from wrong and hope that most people would see me as basically decent. I just dont know what the term "British Values" actually means. Are they different things to different people or are they clearly defined somewhere?
Whats your definition of "British Values"

Re: British Values
The current British value seems to be to roll over and let Brussels walk all over us.

Re: British Values
I don't know what British Values are.....I know what my own values are.
I know right from wrong and try to stay with what is right......I know the difference between what is truth and what are lies(my own, here not other peoples) and I try, where possible to stick to the truth.
I would not do to someone something I would not be happy to have happen to me.
I like justice and fair play....I hate it when people benefit/profit from someone else's loss.
I don't like bad language....and use it only after extreme provocation.
I hold that people have a right to an opinion, which may differ from mine....this difference does not mean I can't like them or get along with them.....though I may choose not to.

Re: British Values
I think British Values used to mean respecting other people, the environment and oneself. I think it meant pride in one's country and one's community and a desire to improve one's own life without making that of others a misery. I think it meant tolerance of those whose views were not our own and a sense of humour in the face of adversity. Sadly, I think much of it has been erroded.

Totally disagree, British values are as they have always been, let the weak fend for themselves and always look after number one.
It's just that we have now moved to a situation where Johnny Foriegner might be considered our equal, if we had kept the view that we are the supreme beings we could have the pre-war (WWII) values that our parents held so dear.
i.e. Rickets, unemployment, ring worm, and the disgusting, unwashed working classes kept where they belong.
We may have become 'common' with the E.E.C. but at least we all get the chance to fester in the same Muck!

I agree entirely, Westender.
