BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
I know they already have, but i think it is an out-dated stupid practice. The hour of daylight we get in the morning is not worth it. Its far more important to have light in the evenings, thats when children (and adults) are still out and about.
Apparently there are more accidents on the roads due to this. AND, it coincides with what Willow was saying in her thread about the mini bus (dont start!) My daughter has a paper-round, she wears an alarm with her and i meet her before it gets too dark. This is REALLY annoying, firstly because she doesn't give me any of her earnings AND i'd rather stay inside curled up on the settee in the warmth!
What do you think?

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
It has been tried before,'leaving it' it did not work in those days school children walked to and from school, farmers also suffered as most farm work is done AM, the road accident rate also increased. No leave don't try to mend something that works.

They should stay as they are now GMT.

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
Farmers can set their own work times cant they? I'd rather save a few lives. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents estimates that there would be around 3000 fewer fatal accidents a year if we stuck with BST.

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
I think its something to do with farmers," i dont know what", but i hate winter full stop, i would rather have light nights and mornings,,,so my vote is for british summer time,,, Roll on march when we go forward again,

Farmers need early daylight as for estimating accidents think of a number and double it, they can not estimate only experiment, like I said earlier it's been tried and it didn't work.

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
When did they try it? I wouldn't want to take any risks about accidents. And anyway its horrible coming home in the dark Why cant farmers just work later if they need daylight?
And, when have they already tried it, and why didn't it work?

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
But why can't the farmers just adjust their working day rather than everybody else have to do it as well? What does it matter to a farmer if he is doing somethng at 8am or 9am? The name given to the hour doesn't actually affect him. He can still do it at that time whatever we call the hour. I hope that makes sense. I know what I mean but it's hard to explain in words.

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
Being retired I am not a slave to the clock any more, so messing around with the clocks twice a year is nothing more than a bind.
However when I was working for a living I was of the opinion that GMT the year round was best especially for those tens of thousands of workers who work the night shift.
So leave the clocks alone and adapt to the world and don’t try to adapt the world to your needs.

Re: BST or GMT Should the clocks go back?
scrap it theres no need for it any more the country no longer has set work times and people finish shifts at all hours of the day
farmers ? - do they actualy work anymore ime under teh impression they get piad NOT to farm their land
kids coming home from school - hardly any kids these days bother to look while they cross teh road during light hours so re introducing the green cross code in scools or he tufty club woukld be more appropiate

It's not as if we get more actual hours of daylight whatever we do with the clocks is it?
