Personally I cant stand the thing and wouldn't care if I never saw it again, but I applaud you guys for getting up off your arses and standing up for something which you obviously care for.

But has anyone given any thought to where this Satanspawn behemoth would reside should you be successful? The Arndale was locked at night thus preventing vandals and hooligans from defacing said clock and I fear that if placed in the open it would be a matter of days before it bears the legend "Maz is 101% megafit IDT INDT" and other such important juvenile scrawlings.

I'm not trying to pour cold water on the idea because if it was indeed paid for by our money then yes, we should take it back for 'the people'. I would hate it if you were triumphant in your bid only for it to become a homing beacon to docile numbnuts who feel it is their civic duty to inform us that they were "buzzin like a bee, suckin' on a sweet called XTC......"

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I agree it can't be outside.. that would be just plain stupid.. the only option I can think of is when they do refurbish the market hall that it goes in there....

Love it or hate it.. Its ours and IMHO they shouldn't have simply taken it down and put a cafe there in the first place... Personally I would rather see it up and working where people can se it and decide if they like it or not... rather than stuck in a basement never to be seen again.

I think the Market Hall is a good suggestion, and about the only place where it can be seen and afforded some protection. It would also add a little something to theMarket Hall, especially the inside.

Forgive me for this, because I haven’t actually seen the place, but what about the Ossy Mills complex...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Its a pity there wasn't any action to keep the circular toilet on Union St many moons ago. Now that was an architectural thing of wonder! I wonder which basement that's locked in.....

Just had a thought - why not get Julie Hesmondhailgh as an Honourary Patron of the action group...she must be devastated now that "the townspeople (don't) gather around the clock in the evening to watch it open"!

If it HAS to come back then I would say that it would have to be in the centre of Hyndburn which I suppose is Accrington. Please don't stick it in the Market Hall though - I've always liked going in there.....but if you bring up the idea of bringing the clock back HBC will probably say ok then...and stick the thing on top of the coppice!
