Car buying scam

just a lil heads up

as i'm selling my car at the mo i'm gettin a few phone calls of "companies" which say they have a buyer interested at the listed price BUT for admin and for them being put in touch with you they're going to charge u a small fee

it varies from £40-100

it sounds an enticing option but its a scam

a few hrs later they'll phone up and say the person's backed out now/changed their mind.

just a lil heads up.

Re: Car buying scam

Well if they dont, dont use them its common bloody sense! And people who are selling cars that are worth alot use companies sometimes. Thats why it says on some ads something like no canvassers.

Re: Car buying scam

one of my distant relatives did fall for this!!

he was selling his bmw x5 for around £15,000 when he got this call offering him a buyer ready to pay cash for this and for his details they wanted £145

thinking whats 145 out of 15K he agreed and gave the credit card details

next phone call off them he got was that the buyer had changed his mind and selected a different vehicle.

my friend was in a similar situation. the people asked him to pay for some shipping cost to Ireland and said he'd recieve a cheque in two weeks with extra money for his troubles.

heard of a few people who got conned this way so persuaded him not to go with the deal.

Re: Car buying scam

We sold my boyfriends car last week and the bloke who bought it wanted the log book in tact ie without filling it all in! We had an endless argument about it, saying that by law it has to be filled in etc etc. And that if he was to drive it away and get a speeding ticket etc my fella would be liable. Don't know why he wanted the log book - maybe so it didnt have another owner on its record? We sorted it anyway - Benne from the Crown came over and sorted him out lol.

Re: Car buying scam

Yes that is usually the main reason for dealers wanting the logbook intact so it doesnt add another owner.

Re: Car buying scam

Always fill the log book in and post it yourselves on the date of sale.
