In 2006 I came off my scooter because a pensioner was driving so slowly I was trying to over take her but couldn't quite execute the move. I ended up over taking her on my backside.
It won't be long before my father hands in his licence because his eyesight it getting worse and won't drive in the dark because of the other drivers headlights being too bright.

There is nothing wrong with handing in your licence if you feel you are no longer fit to drive. There
is something wrong with being told ' you are over 75...time to hand in your licence'
How often do we hear of boy racers killing their friends? How often do we hear of younger people driving under the influence of alcohol? The answer to both of those questions is far more often than we hear of incidents like the Jackie Bloomer one...and the other incidents you quoted.
As for your accident, it seems you were in the wrong...you tried to overtake her but couldn't...why was that then...
maybe it was because you made an error of judgement in trying to overtake in a place that was not safe....but you want the pensioner off the road for this.
I am a pensioner........I have had one accident in 35 years of driving......no penalty points.......many pensioners who still drive, do so because they want to retain some independence.
As we get older and our families move away we can become very isolated...but you want to increase our isolation....prevent us from being able to go out and about. It sometimes seems that we 'oldies' have lived too long for you young folk...you would like us out of the way....it says something for civilzation doesn't it?
I hope you live long enough to remember these words of yours.
